I have a friend who allows her teenage son to have the occasional beer at weekends in the house. She told me that recently he became really argumentative recently. I asked her if he had had stella on that occasion and it turns out this was the culprit. I have advised her that she should tell him not to drink stella again but as I know myself we dont always take this advise seriously when we are young.
I have decided to put up this post to get your stories on the fact that you can drink lager fine but certain brands can turn yo argumentative and it is a good idea if you discover this to stay away from these brands in the future, then I will forward this to my friend so her son can read it.
I was at a festival afew years ago when I heard it being referred to as wife beater, the guy I was with told me he couldnt touch the stuff because it turned him agressive.
I am not saying stella is bad, many people can drink it and be fine, I also believe the same can be said for many of the so called super lagers.
December 13, 2006 at 11:51 am #1096292I wouldn’t say that Stella has made me any more aggressive, but it certainly does not agree with my stomach so I have stopped drinking it.
December 13, 2006 at 12:00 pm #1096314I think its just certain people react to different stuff in different ways, never had any peobs with stella, but it must have got its wife beater tag from somewhere, incidently i have heard San Miguel reffered to as Senorita beater:laugh_at:
December 13, 2006 at 12:02 pm #1096293maybe if a few of us saved the empty cans we could compare the ingredients that go into them (other than hops and the obvious stuff for beer?)
the additives will all have a number (Exxx) which can be looked up on the interweb to find out what it is…
December 13, 2006 at 12:07 pm #1096306Red wine makes me very aggresive. And certain types of whiskey make make quite emotional. lagers im fine with, an all other drinks.
December 13, 2006 at 12:23 pm #1096297i think the wife beater tag is a hangover from when most pubs in england mostly sold beers that were closer to 3%. stella was almost twice as strong. now pubs serve a lot more ‘export’ and ‘premium’ beers that are 5%+
stella tastes crap
December 13, 2006 at 12:54 pm #1096300Anonymousyea i woudl say that drinking strong lager at that age isnt the best plan. i dont drink much these days, as it was getting silly. people have a habit of taking the piss out of weaker beers, and there is definitely social pressure to not drink weaker ones. but personally i cant drink stella all night, i wont neccessarily get aggressive, but i will be too pissed for my own good and prolly do summat stupid.
i have a few friends that claim that stella makes em arrgessive, and i have seen this in action on one of them several times.
December 13, 2006 at 12:56 pm #1096296I know people that Stella doesn’t agree with and they turn aggressive. Personally it doesn’t effect me but it does effect my stomach (just like GL said).
You are right though, it’s not necessarily one particular beer/lager that does it (although stella seems to be known as the worst) so different ingredients must effect a range of people in varying ways. You’ve just got to find the beers that suit you, and the ones that don’t, through trial and error really.

December 13, 2006 at 1:59 pm #1096316I like stella but it must be said if i get pissed on it it can turn me agressive, and im really not an agressive person
December 14, 2006 at 2:04 pm #1096299Yeah im not fond of it to be honest. Red Stripe is much better although im not a big drinker.
December 14, 2006 at 5:46 pm #1096308I tend to drink it due to the dire quality of the lagers stocked around here and the endless cheap offers on it – have not noticed the wife beater effect either in myself or in others who drink it with me – maybe I wasnt paying attention
December 14, 2006 at 8:25 pm #1096302Stella just gives me a terrible hangover. Nasty. :yakk:
December 15, 2006 at 12:03 am #1096313I love stella-its my beer of choice-the only other beer that comes close is carlsberg export!:bounce_fl
They dont make me aggressive, just very drunk!!!!
December 15, 2006 at 6:26 am #1096309Beer makes me very loving (i’m to Carlsberg too):weee:
But gives me a terrible hangover..:hopeless:
December 15, 2006 at 2:25 pm #1096315I don’t know if you have the very strong beers we can get for almost nothing here: 8°6,10°10,and the worst ,the 11°11.The brand is the alchool degree.
Those chemicals beers drive you mad.A couple of years before,I had a 8°6 summer. It was My Summer of Drunken Love.I’ve done very embarassing things in public places with drunk girls(don’t ask,I won’t give any more details).I use to be very lovely, and even more when I’m drunk. But 8°6 made me have some very violent behavings, and I was lucky to have my mates around.
8°6 is the REAL wife(father, child, dog, car) beater beer.Smoking tyre and drinking 8°6 is a must in some places here(no 8°6,no riots)…

I remember some friends even brought back a bottle from France which literally just said
“alcool – bon gout – 96°
They said they had paid less than €5 for this entire 70 cl bottle..
It was exactly that – 70cl of 96% alcohol – I think it is sold for adding to wine to make it stronger….
Although you can get this stuff in England it is very expensive due to tax (and often is actually only sold through laboratory supply places!)
mixed with various other drinks, it lasted my friends (all of whom like a drink) several months (maybe a year)…
December 15, 2006 at 6:28 pm #1096311A mate of mine once bought me back a bottle of that – actually tried drinking it neat too – not a good idea. Really good for removing red wine stains though!

December 16, 2006 at 8:04 am #1096317Im a coeliac and I cant drink beer makes me ill 😥
December 16, 2006 at 10:23 am #1096303tequila brings out my aggressive side, stella just makes me uber pissed! I do notice the difference in my partner tho when he drinks it compared to other beer, he doesnt get violent, just argumentative in an irritating way. every little thing i say he has an argument for, this has lead to some long nights of debating! he could run for PM after drinking stella!
December 16, 2006 at 2:14 pm #1096304im not a violent drunk, or aguementative, i ussually just fall asleep!
but my brother can make an argument out of anything, with any one once hes pissed. he also becomes irresponsible and has already drunk driven a few times. luckily he prefers the hillbilly local brews but i can imagine stella would only worsen him.
i hate being in a room with pissed people when im not drunk. it makes you realise how emotional and stupid alcohol makes you!!
as for stella i reckon it definitly makes some people aggressive , although only men it seems.
December 17, 2006 at 1:18 pm #1096291Stella is the worst beer ever, even the smell of it makes me heave. In fact just thinking about the smell and taste of it has made me feel rather nauseous!
I hardly ever get aggressive on alcohol, it’s just not my nature, I may get upset on occasion and pour my heart out but that’s about it.
