people shouted too loud when they had more free speech and pissed off wider society. In hindsight it wasn’t a particularly clever idea for some people to upload pics of vandalised warehouses in and carelessly dumped human shit to public internet forum, as well as brag about stuff like robbing small shops on the way to and from raves.
A tipping point was reached in 2004 when the cops realised they could use these forums against ravers by gleaning evidence for court cases. So everyone has had to lock down and most rave sites are just lifestyle forums these days.
