However,when I lived in Reading I used NTL / now Virgin and certainly then they have “transparent proxy servers” which store and cache popular websites locally (as well as monitoring traffic patterns so they can choke the connections of those they consider to be bandwidth hogs).
These devices, like all other proxy servers, can occasionally go tits up and deliver the wrong content to the wrong people.
They had at least one of these things at my old workplace (in fact about two or three daisychained together) and instead of PartyVibe I once got a page of cricket scores.
The PV page ended up on the desktop of a Pakistani colleague – who later confided in me a liking for dance music as diverse as reggae and Dutch gabba – he said he still listened occasionally as music is not banned in Islam (likes some claim it is) but he had to not let it distract him from prayer, work and family responsibilities..
Could have been worse though, the PV page may have ended up on the screen of one of my managers….
