December 7, 2007 at 3:36 pm #1125492the penalties are IMO overly harsh, but look at it this way
there are some things like carrying knifes, being overly forward to women in the street, drink driving, even catching fish to eat (rather than chuck back in the river!) that are “accepted” in other countries but not in Britain.
if someone comes in from East Europe or Asia and does these things here, we often expect the cops to nick them.
Or otherwise, we expect people who come to our country to work or stay to try and interact in the same way and respect our laws and cultural norms, in the same way my own parents did when they came here back in the 1960s. Why is it any different in anyone elses sovereign country?
He wasn’t bundled into a plane by al-quaeda, he went there by his own choice. If he didn’t agree with the laws had the choice not to go.
Anyone with half a brain knows that countries with conservative Islamic régimes take a dim view on drugs and porn and I thought he would have had way more common sense than this
I remember watching LWT news in about 1989 seeing him being led in handcuffs out of some acid house party what got shut down by the Met – so he knows what the establishment of any country can be like – I expect they still have a file on him as “suspect illegal party promoter drug user/dealer” – feds don’t forget..
Worse, by getting caught in this manner he is also reinforcing some dodgy stereotypes of black males that are still prevalent in the world today behind all our “poltiical correctness”. (I still wonder about a stitchup – not from the Dubai authrorities but more from some hater who has infiltrated his management)
I notice though you aren’t seeing any of our politicians getting on the plane to try and help old Groove out (like how they did with teddy bear woman)
just shows that no matter how much he may think celebrity gives him privileges deep down the Establishment still sees him as scum..

Yeah that is pretty fucked up actually. I mean i know it was just a teddy bear, but as we are talking about respecting other countries laws. Why should she get preferential treatment as she did break the law, no matter how ridiculous that law is. Personally i dont think groove was being big headed, im a celebrity etc etc, i think he got caught with a tiny amount of bud, which he probably didnt even know he had and the porn he probably should have known better.
Does anybody know if there had been anymore press about it or if his lawyers have released a statement?December 10, 2007 at 2:30 pm #1146428General Lighting wrote:I notice though you aren’t seeing any of our politicians getting on the plane to try and help old Groove out (like how they did with teddy bear woman)just shows that no matter how much he may think celebrity gives him privileges deep down the Establishment still sees him as scum..
