Now I’m not an expert on aviation/flight routes/paths etc (I think shortylila knows a fair bit about this though) but I have nasty feeling the bits where the war will be are going to be bang in the middle of all the routes to “interesting” destinations that people like yourself may want to fly to.
of course its possible for international air traffic controllers to divert flights into safer areas away from the conflict theatre, but that will obviously cost more.
although I am not sure if it the air conflict will reach the same levels as world war II, there wasn’t a great deal of passenger travel back then! (it had just started (at least for the rich) but was stopped as the resources were diverted to the military.
it probably will be, i’m mostly wanting to travel to south east asia, south america and africa, so for south east asia i expect iran n that is bang in the middle of flight paths
i think it’d be disatrous if we went to war again in the middle east, i dont buy this whole terrorism think at all. if it genuinely is to fight terrorism, surely they realise you can’t fight an ideology with guns
i dont think its solely about oil in the short term, i think its gaining a stronghold, almost like conducting a takeover of land and using terrorism as justification
too many innocents specially civilians out there, but a couple of my mates are being sent to afghan and iraq, decent people, not the brightest of lads but good people, of course the army looks all appealin cos they big it up as this amazin life experience, they are beginnin to realise they are puppets in a play, like john brown
the army has the capability to fuck people up well bad, my mates older brother went off bein a sound guy, relatively calm, came back and kicked the shit into his dad over some ridiculously petty argument, tetchy as anythin now

I think most people know this when they sign up – you are no longer an individual, you are broken down and re-built as a soldier …
Just my opinion –
but you cant goto fight for ‘you queen and country’ and do so without realising there will be an inpact upon your social skills and interactions – and esp if you see active duty – you couldnt face those scenes without some impact upon you…..have been in contact with ex- army and some of the horror stories are enough to make even the most hardened peerson crumble – esp what goes on in camp – reports of rapes and bullying and that is from your own …..

Quote:i dont think its solely about oil in the short term, i think its gaining a stronghold, almost like conducting a takeover of land and using terrorism as justificationExactly. the Americans are trying the same empire building the British did a few hundred years ago.
Now it is possible that this actually may not happen or not to the extent they wish as the sheer cost of it could provoke economic meltdown in the USA!
But thats still not really a “bright side” as the anger unleashed within America could lead to as many civillian deaths in that part of the world
Some progressive Americans whose blogs I read and whom I occasionally correspond with feel that the Southern USA (sterotypical redneck place) will erupt as people would rather die and/or one another than form any sort of “socialist” community, and they have the firearms and explosives readily available to “defend the American Way to the last”.
I also read on some healthcare training site that the FBI themselves admit at least one improvised explosive device goes off every day in the USA and thats just from people sorting out their private disputes (in other words fuck all to do with foreign terrorism)
(well thats one country definitely off most peoples travel lists!)

it wasn’t any better in the 80s, except we thought there would be atomic war and that we would go bang in a week or two (apart from those who died of radiation) rather than a long drawn out conflict and economic recession. At least we still have technology and resources that can be rebuilt/recycled whatever happens if you can learn some basic engineering skills.

if you use your money and resources in concious ways thats not a problem. as right on as we may all want to be its a capitalist world and even a bit of money gives you more power to change things. There were chaps in Rochdale who set up the Co-Op and now round here (hundreds of miles away) they can compete with Tescos and win and still do loads of positive stuff..

I’d actually want a gun (and that is the only time I would ever feel I needed one in any country) but you can’t get one if you are a foreigner!
I wouldn’t get let in anyway without a medical/psychiatric report saying I am not a drug addict, and thats only because of two cautions for drugs.
