In Britain and the Commonwealth “tea” also refers to a number of different meals (where tea is often also drunk :wink:).
There is “afternoon tea” for posh people – there is less food (and you have to wear suits / dresses etc, this is what the Queen and sometimes the Prime Minister may invite foreign visitors and businessmen to).
You may also see this on old films about Britain, sometimes rich Chinese people in Singapore and Hong Kong will have afternoon tea.
Then there is “high tea” which is a larger meal, and a working class development of afternoon tea. In many areas, particularly Northern and Eastern England, this meal is now just called “tea”. Some other communities may call it “dinner” (but this term is sometimes used for lunch) or “supper”.
