Personally it started off by my dad who has an eclectic music taste like mine. Was brought up on the Prodigy, Leftfield and a load of trip hop as well as heavy metal and rock..
Then my oldest brother started bringing home drum and bass cd’s and i got really interested in that and after that i spent hours and hours on youtube just looking at trance music and seeing footage of massive raves and from the age of around 10 or so i just thought “Damn. I want to be a part of that.” Never looked back. I even wanted to try MDMA at that age but alas that wouldn’t come for a fair few more years..

Sunchyme!
Personally, I got into it cos it was the first music that sounded cool to me, before that, all I’d heard was love songs and heavy metal, neither of which really flicked my switch. If it weren’t for dance music, I don’t think I’d have ever had any real interest in music – but nowadays my tastes are quite diverse.
January 25, 2013 at 11:54 pm #1265990There were a few stages to be honest.
My brother had a fair bit to do with it though. First it was getting in to the electronic sounds around 84-86 while playing speccy games listening to complilation tapes of new order, depeche mode etc. I was only about 5 or 6 then but they made a big impact.
Then it wasn’t until about 1990 that I got properly in to the dance/rave culture playing tapes of Carl Cox, Randall and co over and over. I was still too young to attend the parties then but got well in to the scene as my bro was part of a fairly large party promotion crew at the time and tagged along for a few things. I bloody loved it but in my age group I was quite alone with it as most people my age didn’t know about it or didn’t care about it. It wasn’t until 3 years later that I started actually going to the events but they didn’t disappoint. I guess it helped that I was so young, as it really was awe inspiring. I doubt I would have cottoned on to to it all so soon and at such a young age if it wasn’t for my bro though.
January 26, 2013 at 1:02 am #1265993I’m guessing if going right back it was my parents disco and stuff like jean Michelle jarre, and mike oldfield,
But I (my bro and sis) were metal heads – my bro iron maiden, my sis glam rock (motley cru etc) and I more grungeUsed to listen to pirate radio though and really got into it via that as it was ‘heavy’ but mental
By this time my sis was a total raver and my bro had got into it also and being the youngest I was dragged along and …..The rest is history
But I guess substances did come into it
My sis got totally mental in it all, but stopped once she found out she was pregnant ( yep…. She was pregnant before she stopped as she didn’t know ..)Now: My bro is still more of a metal head but still totally into his music and gigs, my sis married with kids listening to steps and west life, and I’ve now got my van and still party
January 26, 2013 at 3:43 am #1265999Well I first heard EDM because my friends brother was playing ATB when I was at their house, and I remember thinking it sounded fucking cool but it wasn’t until I was like 13 that I reallyy got into EDM properly, and since then I’ve gone through various phases with it, being into hardstyle, dubstep (e.g. Burial, Skream and Joker, not Flux Pavilion and all that noise; fuck that), trance, house etc etc. I guess now I listen to all of the above and I am loving it. 😀
January 26, 2013 at 10:38 am #1265991My older friends who would go to events and come back off their faces saying how good it was. I would borrow tapes and cd’s etc and sit in my bedroom raving it up to a bong-mix. When I first went to a event I went full retard on the dancefloor and the next day my calf muscles were in agony. I could hardly walk. It was like they were both crapped up but they weren’t. I think I must have pulled them or something.

Lol.. try cycling 4 miles to pick up more drugs at 4am, desperately trying to go quick enough so you don’t hit the comedown, but failing because you’ve chainsmoked.
The shit i do to myself.. -
