My neighbour at work has a huge tatoo on his back but it doesn’t show and he’s positioned it out plain site on purpose. I don’t recon it’s fair to give this woman a hard time although some of the designs she has did seem a little agressive and inapropriate (eg: the skull with wings)…
June 19, 2006 at 10:41 am #1079551i like tattoos and piercings [not brave enough to have them myself though]
i think as long as the public dont see her she should be allowed to show them especially on hot days
people get some strange puritanical fixations about about how we show off our skin dont they?:crazy_fre
June 19, 2006 at 11:58 am #1079547I think she should be able to do what she likes. I used to work at Sainsbury’s when i was a student and they were very particluar with hair styles / piercings. But now i notice people with Beckham style bleached Mohawks and plenty of piercings working there. I think employers are relaxing their strict policies but its taking a long time to filter through.
June 19, 2006 at 12:03 pm #1079552Have 3 tattoos nothing wild or big and i love them.
Think its a bit to much she have, but if she like them
its here body.I choose to cover them at work, but my boss never told me to.June 19, 2006 at 12:17 pm #1079544If it doesn’t directly effect the companies image (ie she is not dealing with the public) then I can’t see why she should cover up.
Although from a personal point of view she looks much more attractive with the cardigan on. I’m don’t have a cardigan fetish :crazy_fre and I like tattoos on a girl but full sleeves on a woman I don’t really appreciate.
June 19, 2006 at 12:58 pm #1079538I think she looks great!

June 19, 2006 at 2:40 pm #1079549i don’t think she should have to cover them up, it’s not as if she has swear words or explicit images tatooed all over her! i can’t say i’d want to have all those tatoos but people should be allowed to express themselves, its their body and people have got to stop being so narrow minded and realise that the person behind the tatoos might actually be really nice!!

June 19, 2006 at 2:47 pm #1079539Basically, i’d tell them to stuff the job. You are doing them a favour by working for them and putting your time and effort in, not the other way round. I refuse to work anywhere that requires uniform (unless it’s safety stuff obviously) or any kind of dress code.

June 19, 2006 at 4:33 pm #1079557Your right! people can and do find them aggressive ,Im covered with fully sleeved arms and I can notice the way people act towards me when I hav them on display to how they r to me when Im covered up and looking respectable(which is not often),it should not make a difference 2 how your treated but Im afraid it does, Im an ok bloke but some people judge on the way I look, and if you dissagree wiv me I will hav to kick your head in……………he he! only joking

If I was covered in tatts then I wouldn’t be offended that people act differently towards me. It’s natural in my opinion. People are uneasy when they encounter something that is ‘different’ to that which they are used to.
Younger people wont normally have a problem with tattoos because they have grown up with it as a culture but some older folks aren’t used to it and it’s natural for them to be unsure I suppose.
It all depends on how they react. If they are a bit uneasy but then soon learn that you are a safe chap/chapess then that’s cool. The type of people that need a bit of a talking to are those that decide you are a mass murdering rapist before even speaking to you.
June 19, 2006 at 5:38 pm #1079540What a coincidence, i’m listening to Coil – Loves Secret Domain, and as soon as I click this link there is a sample about tattoos on someones hands and fingers
June 19, 2006 at 5:39 pm #1079542in some cultures (both in Eastern and Western countries) tattoos are seen as evidence of criminal gang membership (irrespective of their actual designs) and have always been associated with “rougher” types of people
I have a fear of needles anyway but also was deterred as a young lad with a tattoo == gangster/dealer/chav to many people and when they are on Asian people they are often associated with membership of “triad” secret societies..

Im in sth east asia(borneo) at the moment and theres a lot of Chinese here and Dayak peoples(Headhunters) and they place a great deal on you having tats to them Im either a gangster or a warrior which can hav a few advantages ie impressing the local talent, and disavantages wiv local gansters and drunken locals wanting to look good dancing the Riverdance on your head:bounce_o:

I might find it offensive that a woman comes into the office in tiny skirts and high heels everyday but that’s more acceptable.
June 20, 2006 at 1:56 pm #1079554I think she looks great :horay:
and as long as she is ‘doing what she was employed for’ i.e her job efficiently I think they have nothing to complain about
I’m lucky where I work that my boss doesn’t give a s*it what ‘fashion’ of clothes you wear as long as its not sexually inappropriate, you turn up and work hard, however I was told that our consultant said ‘if you take away the piercings and hair she’s actually a very good nurse’ , I guess that was a backhanded compliment? atleast thats the way I’m viewing it!
