“This circuit is defined as 01473 8******” and then “Quiet line test”
interspersed with crackles and 50hz mains hum
and soon I will be listening to BT’s music on hold whilst their call centre operators try and deny that 1950s telephone poles and wiring infrastructure (shared with EDF) is perhaps less than appropriate for 21st century broadband services – particularly when they let squirrels gnaw the cable at ground level so damp/water gets in.
