[NEEEED SLEEP!]March 22, 2006 at 8:04 pm #1069015IME “free” web hosting sites usually stick loads of banner ads around your content…. in extra frames check the conditions carefully as ISTR some even had some condition that by using their services you gave away some of your copyright/intellectual property rights to them!
some of them even try to drop spyware/adware into unsecured machines running IE…
is there still hosting space spare on the PV server? (there appears to be a few old/defunct sites on here still that have been migrated over…)
March 22, 2006 at 8:11 pm #1069014I’m not that keen on hosting small / personal web sites anymore, most of them are a lot of work for very little return. Having said that I have been considering adding blogs to forum accounts, is that what we’re after?

I agree with what that says about the hosted sites.
TBH most people don’t have the time or knowledge to deploy the raw HTML code and database links properly – and if done wrongly there are all sorts of things that can go pear-shaped. Also people forget or run out of time to update them; especially as most of us are busy raving or socialising at the weekends, and in this day and age with workplace usage montioring only the hardcore techies have full access to such things as FTP or mySQL (or even know how to use it!)
Blogs / expanded personal spaces are a good idea though.
There are loads of other things I do I’d like to put on the web but I don’t post here as they aren’t strictly rave-related and can be quite technical/intense (such as reviews of bikes/ components/ computers) which I could use a blog for… as well as putting up more profile info as I can afford to be slightly less paranoid these days…
Go for it – just as long as people do not upload horrendous photos of themselves gurning in “cyber-gear” like on some other sites…
March 22, 2006 at 9:48 pm #1069018Thanks 4 getting back guys….
Think u r right free is not the way to go, ad banners would not b a good thing.
If Rich pulls it off and makes me a Site. I can just shop around for web space, first I need 2 buy the web site address, is there anything I need to know about that, before I jump right in. I take it is best to get at least a year or two upfront.March 27, 2006 at 9:15 pm #1069019Have been told by someone that should Know…. That the site is good.
http://www.easyspace.com/hosting.phpWhat package would I need 2 run my little site. [Whats it all mean?]
March 27, 2006 at 10:08 pm #1069020Anonymousi recon with the ammount of hi res images, the platinum package at least. the only thing you need to worry about is the ammount of storage, and you knoo wbetter than we how many files you wanna put up. the webspace/ storage capacity is the man thing you wanna worry aboutthe band width should be fine. the pop accounts are personalised mail accounts (like my use@primalvisions.co.uk which is dead as it got savaged by the sj trolls) and im sure you wont need more than 10 (its solely your site, right?).
if you need any design work done, remember i owe you one for the photos youve taken.
