“Wagon Wheels because size matters” Yeah right thats why the bloody things are half the size they used to be.

March 27, 2007 at 1:45 pm #1101907Ave they actually shrunk or is it just we have grown up?

March 27, 2007 at 1:59 pm #1101908Quote:There have been many debates amongst fans of the biscuit about the size. Wagon Wheels have supposedly shrunk in size as time has progressed, Burtons Foods LTD have denied this. It has been suggested that the supposed shrinkage is due to an adult’s fond childhood memory of eating a Wagon Wheel held in a much smaller hand.
The original factory which produced the biscuit in Slough during the early 1980s were transferred to an updated and modern factory in Llantarnam in South Wales. The original factory in Slough produced the biscuit with crinkled edges rather than the updated smoother edges. This caused the overall diameter of the biscuit to shrink slighty, but not as much as fans of the biscuit believe.
Also, although the UK Wagon Wheel has barely shrunk, it is still noticeably smaller than the Australian equivalent. The diameter of the Australian version is measured at 88 mm which is 14 mm larger than the UK version. Even though the Australian version is wider in diameter, the UK Wagon Wheel is notably thicker by 4 mm.As of October 2006, the Canadian Wagon Wheel measured 70mm x 17mm.
There you go GD! they havent shrunk! :bounce_fl

March 27, 2007 at 3:50 pm #1101890it wasn’t a massive change in size (the real reason for this is that everything looks big if you are a kid!) – but as mentioned in the earlier post – wagon wheels did change in dimensions and in texture, design and possibly ingredients around the early 1980s (due to the change of factories).
I certainly remember this happening… I expect a number of us around the same sort of age group did – this has been combined with childhood nostalgia to exaggerate the size change.
Sadly I think the old factory in Slough has was knocked down soon afterwards, otherwise it could easily have been put to other uses :laugh_at:

No I did not.there were several excellent ones in the area just between Slough and West London (literally on the border) – I reckon it was because of Slough’s reputation that so many were empty as no businesses wanted to use them…
I lived in Reading at the time so it was just down the road from me, and was always a good area for the winter season..
Fair play to Ricky Gervais, his portrayal probably helped us get loads of party venues. (Sadly I think most of the venues got caned and have been locked down..)
