I got a catalogue from this company in North London called Studiospares based in Neasden. The “own branded” kit is very similar to CPC (indeed some of it is clearly the same) and they do all the usual brands. They offer to match CPCs and other prices and are apparently a medium size family run business (I suspect its an extended Jewish family which would be a good thing as they are good at business and like music – my own extended family is mixed British Asian and Jewish!)
I am thinking of switching a lot of business other than raw components and ICT kit to them as though CPC are good priced they are based way up North and they make random errors in the order especially with bulky items. (I’m missing 3 units of a plastic shelf which is annoying as I now have to wait for another courier to replace it) – this may also indicate they are overloading their staff.
Also their continual promotion of power line ethernet adaptors annoys me.. the electricity wires are not intended to send high frequency digital signals into, that fucks up radio reception for everyone..
I’d also rather give the business to London as its nearer, and one good point was they make their catalogue smaller to save paper..
Has anyone used them? they seem to have a good selection of kit particularly acoustic treatment items.
July 17, 2012 at 12:43 pm #1255998I’ve heard their name, but never used them. Couldn’t tell you if they are any good or not unfortunately. Although if my memory serves me correctly I’ve heard of them from when someone was asking about where to get some parts and the recommendation was to get them here. Not very reliable info, but a start at least.

I get a lot of my music stuff here, they are based in Germany but I’m pretty sure they have warehouses over here. They are very reliable and generally cheap compared to a lot of places for a lot of the stuff they sell. Can get anything delivered for max £10, over a certain amount spent it’s free delivery.
July 17, 2012 at 1:31 pm #1255997I’ve ordered from Studiospares a few times, they’re a pretty good company and reasonably priced. I can’t vouch for their own-brand stuff e.g. cable/connectors as I tend to stick with Van-Damme/Neutrik, but as a company they’re pretty well-regarded. They once only sent me half of an order by accident, but when I called them about it I managed to speak to the bloke who’d actually picked the order, and the manager (I think you’re right about it being a small company) and it got sorted fairly quickly when they could have been awkward about it.
July 17, 2012 at 1:45 pm #1255994a lot of it is identical to the CPC brands. I think the cables are the slightly better quality versions that CPC sell. The “Norfolk mini rig” speakers are definitely the same, I’ve got a CPC version sat by me at the moment as I use them for a bit more low end during daytime.

how long does the stuff usually take? I’ve noticed NL/DE suppliers seem to have longer delivery times (3-5 days) even within their own country which I think might be because folk there have more holiday/free time or can work at home and couriers presumably give more accurate exact dates so they don’t have as many cockups as British ones.
That aid if I wanted a entire traditional piano I’d get it from Germany rather than here as I’d trust the Germans more to get it to me in one piece. I can remember when the shifting of a piano was a common plot in a British comedy sketch

I think all the orders I’ve placed have come within a week, but I’ve not bought from there for a while so I can’t be 100% sure, but I know I didn’t have a problem with the speed of delivery.
EDIT: I just checked their website and they say 3-4 days, and I remember everything getting here at the time they said when I ordered, so the stuff I got must of come in 3-4 days.
July 17, 2012 at 2:54 pm #1255996thomann is pretty decent, most of my friends got their stuff from there because they have an outstanding 3 years warranty deal…and their catalogue is quite well assorted…
