The 22-year-old man was spotted hanging onto the side of the building in the Butter Market in Ipswich, about 10m above the ground.
It is thought he was taking part in free running – a form of urban acrobatics in which participants perform stunts using buildings and other street furniture – but lost his nerve half way through.
Firefighters from Princes Street attended the scene at around 6.45pm along with a turntable ladder from Colchester Road and, using specialist gear for working at height, managed to reach the man.
He was then helped down the ladder at about 7.05pm and was found to be unhurt. Fire crews left the scene at 7.15pm.
