I hate the way prostitutes are seen as lower class citizens by some people. They are just trying to make a living in their own way. An its not like they are hurting anyone, so wheres the harm in it. If they made this sort of thing legal then they could be less suseptible to horrific crimes such as these, and offered the help they need when they need it.

Not only have 5 familys just found out their daughters are prostitutes (if they didn’t know already) but it’s being broadcast to the nation. Pretty soul destroying I should imagine.lots of their families didn’t know – I’ve noticed that although family values are very strong in Suffolk people are also quite stubborn so when there are differences of opinion over drugs/lifestyles etc lots of teenagers simply walk out of the home, and become estranged from their parents..
Often because the parents refuse to accept their lifestyles they stop discussing what they are doing with their lives so no one realises until things get bad..
Quote:If they made this sort of thing legal then they could be less suseptible to horrific crimes such as these, and offered the help they need when they need it.I agree that it would certainly reduce some of the risks but not all; also drugs would have to be decriminalised or made legal as well at the same time as TBH most prostitutes who have riskier lifestyles are addicted to drugs, which drives them to work the streets as its a quicker turnover for money.
if this didn’t happen there would still be the addicts trying to undercut the other prostitutes who would still work the street and men who would prey on this…
But the UN anti-drugs law holds this back..
also the whole EU would have to do both legalisations in one hit across 25 nations to avoid an overwhelming tide of drugs/sex tourism and related gang activity…
it wouldn’t also stop the hate crimes against prostitutes by people who do not agree with their actions.
After all its perfectly legal to be an ethnic minority in this country but plenty of racial violence still occurs…
December 13, 2006 at 1:30 pm #1096159Hi all, I’ve got to be up in Ippo for my mates funeral tomorrow (don’t know if you caught the story in the Evening Star about a bloke being found dead in his flat about a month ago GL?) and the general feedback I’m getting is that people are becoming dead scared. I’ve got a mate up near Rushmere and she’s too frightened to even walk the dog, it might be quiet and pretty boring but I think the move to Diss I made was a good decision! I used to live on Burlington Road next to Handford and I used to have a couple of the girlsd come to partys of mine for a night off, fucking sad situation I just hope they can catch this bastard before too long 😥
December 13, 2006 at 5:36 pm #1096149sorry to hear about your friend mudstomper (yes I saw the news report and think I know who you mean)….
yep there is a lot of fear and anger – every girl/woman I know wants a personal attack alarm now but at the same time feel that they are powerless…
doubtless there is a lot of anger amongst the blokes (either their partners/brothers/dads as well as just normal lads) they will become suspicious of outsiders – I reckon this will also have a knock on effect in an increase of violence (particularly hate crimes, as people will undoubtedly suspect that “foreign workers” are responsible) and just random outbursts of anger….
Everywhere I go I see police cars and some areas still have cordons on them (also because of the shootings at the garage night)
I expect the cops will catch whoever did it eventually due to good surveillance and forensics; but the after-effects will last for a long time, including increased prohibition and social control as many “normal people” are still arguing “drug addiction is the cause of all this”…
December 13, 2006 at 9:32 pm #1096164Sorry to widen the paranoia net but why are we all assuming that the killer(s) is/are male? It could be a woman too :hopeless:
And drug prohibition is the cause of the problem, not the solution – heroin and crack have been illegal for years and still the drug addiction goes on – time to wake up and admit that prohibition doesnt work; it only causes misery whether its drugs or prostitution which is being prohibited.:you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy

If you speak to non-users here about legalising any drug they simply refuse to listen as many have had negative experiences from the effects of drug culture and don’t equate this with prohibition because the only anti-prohibitionist voices come from drug users
even young people have seen their friends lack of self-control get them into trouble (street prices are low despite illegality) so they have negative views about drugs…
and even though people feel sorry for the girls families there is still the hidden feeling amongst some (particularly those with power) that “its payback for bad lifestyle choices” (but they don’t actually say this due to political correctness) and there is also a view that “todays party girl == tommorows prostitute”
at the moment too many are clamouring for cops to protect them and wave a magic baton to just make all the nasty bad people go away rather than looking at the wider picture or being prepared to tolerate drug use (of any kind) or legalised sex industry….
December 15, 2006 at 6:18 am #1096174I guess they have realised that the prostitutes don’t and can’t stay home even if there are a killer on the loose..
Can’t say that this is the best solution, who can hear them 3-4 miles outside town
Would be better if they could get the drugs free.
I saw in the news (Danish television)yesterday that they have a suspect..
A fat man with glasses in a dark blue BMW .
Apparently he should have driven off with one of the girls the last day that anyone saw her ?Prostitutes To Get Alarms
Updated: 10:38, Thursday December 14, 2006
Prostitutes on Teesside are to be given personal attack alarms in the wake of the Ipswich murders.
Cleveland Police have changed the focus of their ongoing operation to tackle the sex industry, shifting emphasis from arresting vice girls to offering them safety advice.
Extra officers will patrol Teesside’s red light district, traditionally one of the largest in northern England.
One hundred devices will be handed out to sex workers, provided by the Domestic Violence Case Group.
Middlesbrough district commander supt Steve Swales said: “We have been running Operation Streetwise since November but the focus of our activities has changed significantly in the last week.
“Our priority at this time is to educate and engage the vice girls in staying safe.”
Officers will also encourage prostitutes to seek advice from drug counsellors and other support workers in an attempt to get them off the streets forever.
Cleveland Police have liaised with colleagues in Suffolk to investigate possible links between the Ipswich murders and the death of 21-year-old prostitute Vicky Glass.
She was found naked in a stream on the North Yorkshire Moors six years ago.
December 15, 2006 at 5:42 pm #1096175Have just read that another girl is missing, unless i have misunderstood something?
:hopeless::hopeless::hopeless:
December 15, 2006 at 5:52 pm #1096165You got that right as far as i can see :hopeless::hopeless::hopeless:
This article is an interesting read related to this matter:
December 15, 2006 at 6:02 pm #1096151yes it is a sixth girl and her boyfriend – both currently missing
the worst part of all this is although I expect cops will catch the killer, there will be a longer term increase in clampdowns on youth lifestyles as British society is still deeply set on control and prohibition :you_crazy….
December 15, 2006 at 6:07 pm #1096166Despite years of evidence that it doesnt work :you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy
Just as well no-one in power takes drugs or uses prostitutes [or is it just another example of great British hypocrisy?]
December 15, 2006 at 6:34 pm #1096176Missing Girl Is Found Safe
Updated: 18:19, Friday December 15, 2006
A former prostitute reported missing in Suffolk in the wake of the murder of five girls in the area has been found safe and well.
Since December 2, the bodies of five women have been found dumped in the area, prompting a massive manhunt by Suffolk Police.
Tonight officers were investigating reports that another girl, a former prostitute, had not been seen for two or three days.
Suffolk Police said officers had been told the girl had gone missing with her boyfriend.
However, they have now confirmed she has been found safe and well.
