yeah man sounds sweet. can’t wait to hear it : )

meh I’m having no luck with your bass mate, the square wave is causing it to click with that filter on it. I’m not gonna be able to get rid of it with out severally low passing it and it takes out that nice parp you got if i low pass it too much.

can it not be put through a limiter or something done with the square wave’s level without trashing the wanted sound? had a quick look and there appear to be a number of reasons why this could happen but they are explained on electronics boffins forums with loads of maths I barely understand myself. I wonder though if the1log’s laptop is removing a clipped signal as some laptop soundcards have various DSP software built in to stop people blasting their ears if they are using a ropey VOIP connection or to make small speakers sound louder, whereas Daftfader just got a new soundcard which would be playing the whole sound..

I know what it is. It’s because of the shape of a square wave (it’s got some other waves mixed in with the square in this sound but I know it’s the square causing it). … with the filter automation, part of the square is getting cut off and leaving a little spike like the end slice of bread from a loaf. That’s the best I can explain it anyway. This little spike is causing a clicking noise, what with all the distortion and effects has becoming considerably louder. Unfortunately the master envelope only governs the beginning and end of notes and the filter is designed to go over a long held note so when the filter cutoff sweeps it’s just chopping through what ever square is playing at the time. It might be able to be fixed by assigning another envelope to something, mby to the amp of the lfo that controls the filter cut off so it’s not cutting through it so harshly at the beginning and end of the sweep, rounding the edges of the spike so it doesn’t click? I’d have to play about with it for a while to work it out, if it can even be done with out changing the sound considerably.

What the log has doesn’t have this problem, it’s just he wanted me to do something to the bass, and whilst trying to do it i ran into this problem so log wouldn’t of heard the click. I’m gonna have another attempt from scratch and try and achieve what log wanted me to do a different way altogether. 🙂

description sounds a bit like “ringing” which the filter can cause depending on its frequency (or even the type of coding). its not a particularly simple concept to understand, I know it happens with both digital and analogue electronics and signals and is a pain and the most common suggested solution is changing the type of filter or its cutoff frequency.

I think that’s more of an echoy sounding oscillation. What I’m talking about is more like the click you hear in your speakers when you turn off the power to something plugged into them. I’ll try record it if I saved the version with the clicking in (I fear I didn’t bother saving it though). The explanation of how the “ringing artifacts” happen does sound like what could be happening though, just what I’m imagining a ringing artifact to sound like doesn’t sound like what’s actually happening.

[EDIT] na I didn’t save it. I’d allready tried using other filters and you can’t get the same noise (the good bit) as it’s that specific filter sweep what gives it it’s sound. I’m gonna have a go again starting from log’s original patch tomoz and hopefully won’t run into that dreaded click again.

Grrr. Damn basline. Thanks for trying though. But to be honest if you try to strat form scratch, I don’t think you have enough loggy goodness inside you to pull off such a glorious bassline as mine. 😛

Sorry mate, had to take this completely out of context & turn it into something pervy. Damn my childish mind, giggity!

haha na i ment start it from where you sent it to me, rather then from my mashed up version that came from your one.

I hate it when I work on a bassline and end up with clicky bits on the performer
