im an outsider looking in. I have seen these “raves”. Not my cup of tea. It all just seems so hopeless. Why?

February 19, 2005 at 9:07 pm #1064190God, not another ‘the vibe’s killing the scene!’ threads… 🙂

No it really does, when you are maybe young 16-22 i can understand the appeal. But the music is normally very bad, the people on the whole are drug addicts, the environment, normally a warehouse feels isolated. The whole vibe is very Druggy. There seems to be some really good raves going on in London, where the vibe is fun, happy and everyone is a bit older and not doing drugs to music. For example, check out http://www.bangface.com
a great party with wicked DJ’s. i.e Ceephax acid, Cylob, Squarepusher, Mike dred. These guys know what time it is.

first, bangface looks fun / funny… so go for it 🙂
second, sorry if your experience of free partying has been bad. you must have gone to the wrong parties. and there are some wrong parties going on. :p
just don’t assume that some noise factory filled with people munching spaz biscuits and running up vet bills is what everyone is about
have a look at the photo gallery, read some of the threads here… there’s plenty to be positive about and proud of 😎
and welcome to partyvibe

Yeah, im think the idea of a free party is good and noble and in the spirit of how i think life should be, but its just the drug aspect. I have done my share, albeit not gurning like a cunt to a load of fucking mind toilet. Music becomes a whore, and when music become a whore you know things are very wrong. When i go out to a party, i expect nothing less than brilliance. I dont want to here some mediocre DJ play some crap gypo tie dye drum and bass, i want to hear the best, hardest drum and bass. i.e Squarepusher. If I want to hear best jungle etc etc…. It seems to me that the whole thing with free parties is th emphasis on drugs.
Id like to be proved wrong, but im sorry as much as i think a lot of people in the scene are nice people. the drugs element is too depressing. When your 16- 20 yeah, maybe fine…but 28, nah. Can you see what vibe im talking about? can u see my point?
Thats why i like the whole Neo-rave thing, the party vibe remains, it’s about people who have done all the drugs and are now mature, know what they like and want to have a great time with other sorted people. not a load of K heads or children playing 16 year old drum and bass or some Chris Liberator Suicide music.
You know what im talking about?
February 21, 2005 at 3:36 pm #1064195i see where you’re coming from
full respect to neo-rave for giving people a good time!
but for me i love to get together with loads of people of all ages in a beautiful spot and dancing and nonsense all night and day with plenty good moosic in a way that i can’t with a roof over my head… 😀
and i still like to alter my conciousness and think i probably always will… 😮 for me drugs aren’t the be all and end all of a good time, people are, so next time i’m in london i’ll check out Trafik and see if yer there 😉
February 21, 2005 at 4:53 pm #1064192Ok, I see where you are coming from Ketaman.
I’m not that old, but i’m not young and new to raving either. But I still enjoy myself every time I go to a party, plus I don’t touch chemicals anymore and haven’t done for 3 years so it’s all about the people, freedom and music for me.
I think you’d be suprised how many people don’t even really cain the drugs. I can only talk for my area though, so maybe you have different experiences where you are.
As for the music, it’s good to hear fresh cutting edge stuff, but it’s all a matter of taste isn’t it. Some peoples heads may really get a rush and a buzz from the so called tie dye drum and bass and suicidal liberator stuff. They may also think that squarepusher is a load of experimental studenty crap. But you can’t blame them for enjoying/disliking the music that way, nor should you try and force your tastes on to them.
There is a lot wrong with the parties, i’ll agree with that. But there is hope for them yet and i’m not giving up.
PS Squarepusher played live at a party we were involved in during the summer with the Wang boys and girls. That was in the lush surroundings of a forest too. So it’s not all stale restrictive warehouses as you put it.
February 21, 2005 at 5:26 pm #1064193Uuugh! Gross.
Can’t open most of the Bangface site at work for some reason, but tbh of what I saw it looks like loadza sweaty ravers looking geigh!!
