what a total joke. i watched it for about a second until i realised what it was then turned it over. Who the hell wants to watch that? dont know why im suprised about what a total circus it was, seeing as his life was like that, so why not his death but ffs it just seemed so wrong for the whole world to be watching what should really be a private event. :you_crazy:
July 8, 2009 at 8:26 am #1203110I have to admit I watched quite a bit of it…parts were ok(ish)…some parts on the otherhand were sick!!!
At one point a huge image of him projected on stage with an ecclesiasstical glow behind him looking like Jesus on the cross…Sick as……..where’s Jarvis Cocker when you need him!!!:weee:July 8, 2009 at 8:34 am #1203108saw a tiny bit at the end when they all sang ‘we are the world, we are the children’ … ridiculous

Also im not suprised they’ve tried to portray him as whiter than white. (no pun intended). The sooner i throw my tv in the skip the better i reckon!

I can understand why people want to remember someone they loved…& in fairness he was loved all over the world. Putting aside the fact I think he’s a complete wacko nut job for a minuite…he did do alot… the one part that did make sense to me was the The Rev. Al Sharpton, , said Jackson had created a “comfort level” that opened the way for the achievements of others (or at least his music did).:love:July 8, 2009 at 9:00 am #1203103ye sweetass that part where they made him glow like jesus…. oh myyyyyy
i saw some of it (10-15 mins maybe, not my choice) and i thought it was a complete joke. what has the world come to…
i hope Gary Glitter gets a good send off

Thou shalt not put musicians and recording artists on ridiculous pedestals no matter how great they are or were.
The Beatles… Were just a band.
Led Zepplin… Just a band.
The Beach Boys… Just a band.
The Sex Pistols… Just a band.
The Clash… Just a band.
Crass… Just a band.
Minor Threat… Just a band.
The Cure… Just a band.
The Smiths… Just a band.
Nirvana… Just a band.
The Pixies… Just a band.
Oasis… Just a band.
Radiohead… Just a band.
Bloc Party… Just a band.
The Arctic Monkeys… Just a band.
The Next Big Thing.. JUST A BAND.July 8, 2009 at 9:05 am #1203073The guy was an utter nutjob. The jury is definitely still out on whether he was a kiddy fiddler or not (as far as I’m concerened anyway), and the whole hysteria and over the top mourning/praising of the chap is exactly that.. over the top.
One minute everyone, especially the media, is slating him. Then as soon as he has passed away he was a saint and no wrong word can be said about him. That’s the usual way I suppose. Smacks of hypocrisy.
All that said, a shit load of people did love his music so I see no wrong in a memorial service that everyone can be a part of and mourn. They already had an exclusive funeral service.
I didn’t see the service so I don’t know how it was handled. Also, no doubt a few people will have been making a shit load of money somewhere along the line too. In theory I don’t see it as a circus though.

He had crossover appeal, but so did loads of disco stuff. it wasnt micheal jackson that changed peoples perceptions or his music. Peoples perceptions and prejudice’s were already being changed by other factors.
July 8, 2009 at 9:28 am #1203112Yes plenty of successfull black musicians…but not on quite the same level..and not reaching the same number of people all across the globe..he was (back in the day) a role model who gave kids hope & belief that they could achieve…..surley thats gotta be commended…
You name me one other black artist who could have been played at that free party a couple of weeks ago that would have got every one up for a bop??
(didn’t think i’d be spending this morning defending the weirdo but he had his part to play!!)

billy gene is a slick tune with a quality bassline, but the main reason everyone was having it to it was cause it was proper comedy bustin out shite moonwalks all over the place! :laugh_at:July 8, 2009 at 9:51 am #1203113DIONYSUS;339352 wrote:doubt that would have worked….

Back to the origional point, however sick parts of the memorial were people have a right to remember…….better people watch the memorial of someone they felt something for than Eastenders, Hollyoaks, etc…
Nothing wrong with a public display of affection for someone they loved!!!

sorry but I don’t even think he is comparable to Al Sharpton or Martin Luther King or Barack Obama (I was really impressed with how Obama was sympathetic but didn’t fawn over him)
the whole black/urban music industry in that nation (and even to a lesser extent here) is rotten to the core and deep down exploits black people as much as the overseers of the cotton fields did, its just that this time the bosses are the same colour as them…

Carl Cox
Jeff Mills
Green VelvetTo name a few big names. 😉
I get what you meant though.
July 8, 2009 at 9:57 am #1203071This black guy has done way more for the international music scene (as well as communications as a whole) than any musician..
July 8, 2009 at 10:00 am #1203079i think there is actually somethig mentally wrong with people if they can form a actual emotional bond to someone they have never met or known. Its all like the diana stuff. and a lot of people all wanting attention. :-/

I toasted Hunter S Thompson when he passed away a few years ago, just as a thanks for the books & the weirdness……..I didn’t break down in floods or anything It just felt right to pay my repects………everyone should be allowed to do so!
