I know with midi controller keyboard type synths, you can play the keys whilst recording on cubase to a midi track and it will record everything you do and then play it back exactly the same … and allso edit it actualy in cubase with a vst of the midi controller just like if you was doing it on the keyboard it’s self …
can you get a hardware synth to do the same thing? or do only specific ones do this?
June 4, 2010 at 1:51 pm #1226677You can make a hardware synth do this, but you need to use the MIDI learn function quite a lot, and it takes a while to get it all working right…
But yeah – as long as the keyboard speaks MIDI (and pretty much all do nowadays) you can make cubase respond to it. As far as I remember you can also get downloadable “instrument” MIDI control templates for many hardware synths, but it’s a long time since I used cubase, so I couldn’t tell you how good they are…
June 4, 2010 at 7:26 pm #1226679yeah see the reason i ask this question is i have a roland groovebox mc-303 and i been trying to get it to work with midi how i discribed above but i don’t think it lets you do it – i was wondering if all hardware synths were the same … for instance would an emx or virus ti be the same?
June 4, 2010 at 10:13 pm #1226685i completely forgot about Midi learn
June 5, 2010 at 12:12 am #1226681midi learn on cubase? never used that b4 O.o

An MC-303 will do it (I have one of those too). You just need to be sure and set it up properly and get it talking to cubase, then use MIDI learn to program it (you can do it by hand, but it takes a while). Roland essentially wrote the MIDI standard, so their boxes are usually the most faithful adherents to it…
June 9, 2010 at 3:17 am #1226684lol the mc-303 is soooooooo damn old… how hard is it to make a good song on one of those things?
June 9, 2010 at 7:27 am #1226686with a virus ti you dont need to use midi.. it’s got a software front end and all done over usb.
I actually leave the dust cover on when im using it most of the time because the software interface is much more intuitive and easy to use then twiddling knobs

see i was under the impression that the mc-303 groove box was diferant to most other midi boxes roland do and had alot less midi capabilitys and only could synk or be used as a sound module. Do you recon you could go into a bit more detail how to set it up as i’ve tryed everything i can find on the net and it’s not working how i want. I’ve allready tried script software and the likes and still can’t even get cubase to reconise there’s something plugged into it! Setting up my mates midi keyboard was a piece of piss compared to this 😥

It’s a bit of a pain in the arse to use on it’s own .. you have to use it like you woudl your emx .. Ie. press loads of buttons to do simple things. and loads more to do more complicated things. This is one of the reasons i want to get it hooked upto cubase properly.
