i celebrate it as part of my cultural heritage… it’s a time to recognise and reflect on the natural forces that give us life and shape our lives
it’s also just nice to get up earlier than i usually would and quietly watch the sunrise… it’s thought-provoking and meditative both at the same time, if that makes sense

There are no words which express correctly how it affects me – its is a feeling of rightness to celebrate it and an enormous sense of peace too is about as close as I get to it.
Why do you feel enormous peace? I’m just asking. I hear a lot of clichés like that, l’m just wondering what the substance to it is.

I reckon that’s the way it should be too, it’s not that you have to be at peace, you have to feel heightened goodness or anything, it’s just like “wow look …” i think it shows the cyclic nature of things and how it’s like like there’s some kind of intelligence at work behind nature.
of course, every day’s full of wonder, but i think stonehenge was designed to emphasise certain days, as part of some ancient riddle, and l don’t think anybody has unravelled its meaning yet!
P.S. I’ve heard that Stonehenge as it is is not the ORIGINAL Stonehenge, it’s something that was remade in Victorian times.

June 12, 2007 at 8:30 pm #1112977I cant explain it unfortunately [wish I could] but I feel its the right thing for me to be doing and its a way of bringing myself into focus if my edges have become blurred [an appallingly fluffy attempt at explaining this for which I apologise – some feelings defy me putting them into the constriction of words to convey them]

But i think i know what you mean from just that paragraph above ^^^
It’s like a big get together, over a birth / marriage / death . Except, this time, the subject is the Sun, not a human.

Was very interesting to read as they had all the different theories about all aspects it, how it was build, why its there.
They were saying the circle we see now is something like the thrid or fourth circle at the site, also one of the theories is that the circles were arranged how they are to worship the stars. Apparently there is something that happens every 16 years or something like that.
I will have a look for it, It did make very good reading as it didn’t say “This is why Stonehenge is here” but showed you all the possibilities.

Hi i’d really appreciate knowing more about the 16 year cycle, could you get more info on it please?
Oh yeah, i don’t see how the dinosaurs could have made it, l won’t go into the obvious problems with that idea

but it would make more sense than most theories of how those giant stones got moved there, seeing as doesn’t the rock originate from really quite far away… i heard dinosaurs were pretty nifty with the old building blocks…

As any sane person will tell you, dinosaurs were sex-magicians from a planet orbiting Sirius 😀
They are our overlords, who created us and will return in 2012 …
I heard the stones came from Wales, and were dragged on rollers all the way to Salisbury Plain, which might be true who knows, but thing is, l also heard that the whole area between Salisbury Plain and Wales was forests in those days, maybe there was a well-known road cutting through it all.
I was amazed when some hippy told me that Stonehenge was recreated by the National Trust or some other body, and is not the original thing. I heard the same about another world-famous monument that i don’t want to name as it might injure the tourist industry.

Hundreds make the pilgrimage to Stonehenge each year to celebrate the summer solstice as the Sun rises. But there’s now evidence that the mystical structure may actually have more to do with the midwinter Sun and the MoonIts the June issue so its now a back issue.
