Anyone want to forgive my ignorance and explain what this celebration means to you personaly.
What form will it take? What point of the day will be the focus? etc.
Is it part of a religion to you or general spirituality or just a nice reason to party?
I have read about it and it seems to mean many different things to different people.
Enlighted me.

June 12, 2007 at 10:49 am #1112992I’ve just read national heritages rules for attending stone henge, and it seems that they are not letting in any “high sided vehicle or caravans” and there will only be parking at the official car park. Over the last few years they seemed to have chilled out a little bit. We have parked in the field that they openned and slept in the caravan so i was okay to drive off in the afternoon.
I’ve emailed them to ask about the changes, I’ll let you know any answer!!

For me Solstice is about connection and celebration
i’ve done it partying and i’ve done it alone
Its easy to feel disconnected from what’s ‘real’ these days and solstice is a good time to focus (its so easy to forget!)
It gives me peace and belonging, makes my blood sing, fills me up with a sense of ‘connectedness’ and joy (and sadness too)
Solstice is about being real, about not being alone in this universe, about being a natural part of everything and appreciating it

The neo-Pagans have official robes and seem a lot like a Roman Catholic clergy <<< what i mean is, pagans often knock the RC Church, but when i saw em at Stonehenge, they looked very RC themsevles.
I think there’s a general atmosphere of 3 things:
Sun-worship
Drumming
Ppl just looking aroundI went because l wanted to observe ppl worshipping the sun and l wanted to see it rise at Stonehenge. I was totally nackered when it finally did rise! By the way, l don’t see anything spiritual in the solstice at all. For me it’s the moment when the sun begins to die, and l gather there was some connection with human sacrifices on the altar stone at that time of year.

June 12, 2007 at 7:43 pm #1112975I celebrate it as a turning of the solar tides.
Its a personal thing for me – I know when it happens even if for some reason I am not aware of when it is supposed to be [like getting the date wrong for example] I also celebrate the equinoxes and the winter solstice.
There are no words which express correctly how it affects me – its is a feeling of rightness to celebrate it and an enormous sense of peace too is about as close as I get to it.

June 12, 2007 at 8:01 pm #1112976I have to say I tend to celebrate it on my own or with close friends but them we live close to a small stone circle and many marker stones so we are spoilt for choice location wise. Have even been known to simply sit outside in the garden to celebreate it by myself 😉

June 12, 2007 at 8:05 pm #1112972i celebrate it as part of my cultural heritage… it’s a time to recognise and reflect on the natural forces that give us life and shape our lives
it’s also just nice to get up earlier than i usually would and quietly watch the sunrise… it’s thought-provoking and meditative both at the same time, if that makes sense
