Music is a tree with branches and twigs, but all from the same root!!Bit phisssogollical maybee – but STrrrrroooooooooooooo innit! Some people don’t c how narrow minded they have become. They should tear down the barriers, and open their minds and appreciate music in its own right.
When I play, I go with the flow, play what i feel, whatever feels right at that moment. Some peeps have disagreed, my son sed once ‘ u wanna make yr mind up wot fuckin style o music ur gonna play ma’.

May 29, 2006 at 2:52 pm #1076851I’d agree with you to an extent, 2old4this. Although I think loose tags/pigeon-holes are handy when you discuss music.
Plus, record shops would be a bloody nightmare to search through if everything was bundled together.
I don’t like how each genre is split up in to 10 or 20 sub genres, I think it should just be loose terms.
To answer the original question though. I like tons of different stuff but the main things that get me going are:
Techno, DnB, Old Hardcore & Breakbeat.

i think every style has it’s good and bad selection even country after all johnny cash is country after all and you cant knock him

I like Hardcore ( forever ;-)) techno, and old Skool d&B
also love a bit of Northern Soul

best of all is dance music below about 140 bpm. i prefer stuff that most people can dance to, wotever they’re takin. i prefer inclusiveness as a concept, i guess. call me old fashioned!:bigsmile: :bigsmile:

You kind of realise there’s more to music than just scenes, and I suppose when you are younger it has a lot to do with fitting into certain scenes a lot more.

May 31, 2006 at 12:41 pm #1076873After three years of drilling hardstyle into people I’ve found that its me thats ended up sick n tired of it, and as such am finding that the music that i’m turning to these daze is predominantly techno, tek, breakcore. jungle, breaks and gabba/terror/speedcore.
Outside of these I’m going through a beligerant stage in terms of dance and finding that I just can’t get into other genres and they end up boring me – I need either a ridiculously hard stomping beat, or the heavy sub-bass of breakbeat orientated sounds for me to dance to, or it just does nought for me – except techno – but thats so close to my heart that whatever form it takes I can’t get enough of it!
No disrespect to other genre’s, it’s just they do my head in – particularly hardstyle and other forms of trance as just had overkill of hearing them!!!

Just come back to that post and thought I better point out that I do listen to other non-dance genres, the above post is purely referring to opinions on dance genres – outside of dance I listen to all sorts of punk, reggae, folk, electro, synth-pop and classical – I’m not a total philistine don’t y’know!
