October 17, 2007 at 1:33 pm #1122933I work as a IT/Finance manager for a small company in a rural area of Suffolk (between Ipswich and Stowmarket).
Before that I worked as a Civil Servant for 4 years (I know exactly what it is like for people like DJprocess!), as a project engineer in the TV industry, and in IT for the financial services in Reading.
My current job might not on the outset seem like the most interesting / creative of jobs but the people are friendly, the work is suprisingly varied (anything from installing infrastructure to producing the company accounts), my managers actually trust me (if I want to do something major I don’t need to do endless change request docs and risk assesments!) and the environment is friendly.

October 17, 2007 at 3:13 pm #1122956Self/un-employed, still.
Working full time on renovating the flat though so hopefully that will make a bit of cash if we sell it.
Had been working as a sailing instructor which was great fun but crap money.
Thinking of re-training to become an estate agent. Got to learn to speak French fisrt though.

October 17, 2007 at 5:50 pm #1122936i manage a small charity that works with young people, most of who have additional support needs. i used to do the front line work and it was a bit like being a blue peter presenter… in a different wacky role each week.
i really enjoy it. I’m becoming a ‘go-to’ person in this area for all matters in my field, so i’m getting to shape policy and services for young people and i think i have the right background. there is no-one managing me (i only have to report to the trustees once every 6 weeks), i have a great team of staff and i’m learning loads about running a charity, which is quite similar to running a business
