“A respectable talent-assured artist with an evident hunger for his craft” Lost In The Sound
London based Skilf is an engaging storyteller and lyricist who uses urban music as a vehicle to share his distinctive artistic aesthetic. From his earliest days, Skilf has been involved with the creative and expressive arts; as a child actor he performed on many stages, taking on many unique roles and even starring in a full length film. It would be this young artist’s love of garage and hip hop which would inspire him to want to create music. As a student of the game, Skilf hungrily studied the creative word play at the center of the art of rhyming. When he first began to create music, it was a totally spontaneous effort, writing, recording and performing at live events became a second nature.
Skilf built his name by playing numerous house parties, open mic nights and pirate radio stations, championing an expansive sound which allowed him to explore the rhythmic tempos of garage, drum and bass and other underground styles. Instantly becoming known for his charismatic delivery style and ability to morph his rhymes to suit varied tempos, Skilf booked club nights, university shows and regional festivals. With each performance, a new opportunity to hone his craft and further develop his vision.
As a creative partner, Skilf has been able to work alongside some of the biggest names in music including: Adamski, UK Garage Pioneer MC Neat, Ashley Beedle, Cut La Roc, Youngman, Agent X, The Nextroom, Genesis Elijah, Serocee, Dizraeli and more. A balanced performer, Skilf is equally comfortable putting in work in the studio as he is toasting the dance; versatile and motivated, he is truly an artist on the move and someone who is dedicated to pursuing his dreams.
‘Original Visions’ was Skilf’s first independently released album and it quickly led to airplay on stations such as 1Xtra, BBC Introducing, BBC Asian Network and Rinse FM. In 2013 Skilf teamed up with Irish production duo John Gibbons & Scimon Tist and made ‘Colder’ which received extensive radio play and reached the top 40 in the official Republic of Ireland charts. With increased exposure came the opportunity to perform alongside some of the most dynamic names in contemporary urban music including: Pendulum, The Freestylers, Ghostface Killah (Wu Tang Clan), Tim Westwood, Chipmunk, Taio Cruz, Skream, Benga and Sam & The Womp to name a few. In the last 12 months Skilf has begun to take his talents to international audiences, playing high profile gigs in exciting destinations such as:Kavos, Cadiz, Shanghai and Berlin.
In a world of pretenders, Skilf is the truth: a man with a plan and a truly global sound, someone to keep an eye on and someone to look to for bold, creative statements that reflect the best of urban informed musical expression.
