October 26, 2008 at 12:28 pm #1181498its a shame about level 1 but a reminder that these resources (worth hundreds of pounds in the real world) only exist due to the goodwill of those with the knowledge and skills required to keep them going..
anyway there is a good possibility level-1 will return…
as for that old chestnut about “not enough free party stuff”, the simple facts are than anyone south of Kings Lynn needs to be fairly discreet about what they chat about here if they wish their events to actually go ahead.
there have always been people from different countries and cultures on here since PV started, one of the big attractions of this place was that although it does have a “British” outlook on things its a very internationalist site.
There is a lot more random banter and lifestyle related chat from younger people, but that is as much because in many regions and countries raves have been clamped down on because of the excesses of our generation (yes all of us from our late twenties to thirties). As well as all the fun and music we left behind a legacy of drug addiction, domestic problems and crime – caused a understandable backlash amongst “non-participants” and so the new generation are being judged and punished for our sins… ravers are now viewed as criminal scum (or at least feckless idle individuals) rather than “Robin hood” or creative/artistic types so it often makes sense to be a bit more discreet in public forums..
I see a lot of young people signing up here who would love to go to a rave or do so more regularly but some can’t find that many parties. They still come here to share mixes, details of legal events, and chat about life in general… others want advice on how to balance their partying/drug use with other important aspects of life, rather than just rinse their minds and bodies and fuck up like a lot of our generation have done.
There is a new mix uploaded here every few days, PV radio is still popular – TBH I think its actually more of a real community here than it was 10 years ago when people just used this place to find out the partyline (which was posted on the public forums) and then fucked off without contributing much!
October 26, 2008 at 12:39 pm #1181503It really bothers me that people continue to say L-1’s dead :hopeless:
We’re taking a break to get things sorted, and we WILL BE BACK.
I for one is not just letting it die..We are some that love that place and the people there too much to let that happen..
Level-1 will never die……….. 🙂

November 25, 2008 at 1:47 pm #1181501Anonymoussweet. we were broadcasting from some US station, wasn’t half the vibe there. definitely get back on level-1 next week if its up.
one thign angel – if you coudl maybe put some knid of description of what teh situation is on the level-1 webspace, then maybe everyone woudlnt be saying it’s dead. it certainly looks dead at first glance.
and no matter what you say sir lighting, this place isn’t even a shadow of what it once was. you can say “no-one can talk about raves, so they’re all being quiet” but regardless, you must admit that this site in no way reflects teh freeparty scene in teh UK. which you may say is a good thing, which just proves my point.
although the new residents seem happy, and that’s the main thing.

The “good times” of the free party scene in the South and East of England are gone and will never return, in hindsight its debatable whether many aspects were good times at all.
Is there any bright side about a load of ketamine and other addicts directly attributable to this scene stressing our public funded health services as we enter one some of the worst economic times for 16 years? The hard evidence is there on our own drugs forum, from peoples own comments. Many users either can’t or won’t self regulate until someone in authority forces them to do so – that is the legacy the drugs culture introduced by this scene has left our nation over 20 years.
Also, whilst we do our best to remove anything what could make it easier for authorities to stop events, its got to the stage where I am certainly not going to cry when badly run events get closed down and their organisers get in trouble, although I will always report the action to keep people informed.
Even so, organisers are still at least given the chance to do legal events. Also this place has never been a “free party fundamentalist” site, in the late 90s we used to host websites for a plethora of legal events in Reading linked to the underground scene (half of them sites are probably still there!)
During the best of the so-called “good times” this place was merely a list of partylines, a few photos and the odd few sketchy comments and reviews. As people were “gettting away with it” everyone was simply too out of their heads and in a state of “premature triumphalism” to address the heavier issues what were festering in the corners.
We didn’t even have a radio station, or half as many resources such as MP3s!
Bad news was ignored, 99% of the clampdowns of the British rave scene are ravers bringing it on top for themselves. Even legal venues can be under threat if people aren’t mindful of the bigger picture.
Even then smarter people in other regions such the North and Scotland as well as other foreign countries seem to be having less problems, and this site is regularly used to assist people in these areas.
The radio stations are a extremely important aspect of what we have left which is why its good to see both PV and L1 returning to their former strengths. They do represent the positive aspects of what remains of the electronic dance music scene worldwide and as you say the new residents seem happy and if anything the community here is growing.
Times change – and that this place has not just survived but thrived is actually a very positive thing.
