August 7, 2007 at 8:49 pm #1117548all the best things happen in Chaord…
if you imagine two circles that interlink, one contains Order, the other, Chaos.
where they interlink is Chaord
Order is necessary for ensuring everything from (some of us) have food to eat, to the lights come on when we want, to the internet working, to water coming out of a tap
Chaos is necessary for all the things like crazy music, mad humour, new ideas, randomly meeting new people
when the two combine, marvellous things happen
we need and want both in equal measure, at the same time, but combined
I hope this helps 😉

August 8, 2007 at 8:07 am #1117552I’d say that both are double edged swords.
People are afraid to change very often as there is a fear of the unknown result of the change, but repetition becomes boring in time so change does become necessary – but usually only when the fear of change is outweighed by the boredom with the present and the prospect of facing a future where the repetition continues to drive you into a rut.

August 8, 2007 at 3:49 pm #1117551Personally I like routeen in my life so that I know where I am,
and it helps me feel safe and stable-but I need to have change and some chaos and regularily create it for myself in order to continue to enjoy and appreciate my routeen and not get too bored…..
I dont know if that makes any sense :hopeless:
I have family and friends that live in continual choas and I just dont think I could cope with that stress

August 12, 2007 at 11:21 am #1117554I think we’re still animals that respond to instinct. Our main priority is to reproduce. In order to reproduce we have to put ourselves in a situation where it’s possible to do so. This means that if we’re not currently in such a situation, we need to change it.
There are lots of other primal influences that cause us to want change in our lives. Food, shelter, friends, safety etc.
After the main influences aree satisfied, I think that some people become content whilst others seek further improvement.
I’ve always thought that in order to have the most fun, you have to make a little sacrifice. When things are going well, changes mùake me feel uneasy but I accept that they can still make things better for me.
I think that willingness to accept changes is closely tied to acceptance of risk. How much will a person risk to make things better? How much are they prepared to lose?
How much do they have, physically and mentally?August 12, 2007 at 11:21 am #1138220I think we’re still animals that respond to instinct. Our main priority is to reproduce. How much do they have, physically and mentally?i really like what you’ve written there, seems to really click in my head, so if you were to talk about the acceptance of risk, would you mean in a risking basic instinct needs sense (reproduction, food, shelter, all the things you listed) or in putting more complex things at risk?
possibly if we’re willing to risk our own personal basic instincts then we could gain more spiritual understanding…. i have an image going back my school lessons, i think one of the Sikh Guru’s possibly (you’ll have to excuse me, I never properly listened in RE), who spent days and days in meditation starving himself of those basic needs, food, water, shelter, and came away with the ultimate spiritual enlightenment, no longer the human he was before.i’m not entirely too sure what i’m getting at right now, i’m a little bit in a sunday spangled stage at the moment haha, but i’ve had a week of some major changes and feel like my life needs to be at a large turning point, but not sure which direction to take…

August 13, 2007 at 6:32 pm #1117555I think that the risk is that during the change you will be leaving a period of your live that you had become comfortable with and entering a new period.
During the interim time there is a period of uncertainty until you settle into the next period of your life and become comfortable again.
For different types of change this period may be long, or short.
Having thought about it for a bit I think that “challenge” is a better word to use than “risk”.
And the challenge is wether or not you have enough resources, physical and mental, to get you through the interim.August 13, 2007 at 6:32 pm #1138221I think that the risk is that during the change you will be leaving a period of your live that you had become comfortable with and entering a new period.

Give it a go and see what heppens – try sleeping on the wrong side of your bed (if you have a partner, try swapping) or upside-down on your bed (with your head where you usually put your feet).
Go on – I dare you! :groucho:
