whatever the whinging scum in the papers and self-appointed “business watchdogs” say, the exams are not becoming easier or any less stressful ; indeed, there are way more exams these days than 10-20 years ago (I read in the papers even kids of primary school age have to do them now!)
if there is any disconnect between what businesses want from potential employers may say and what is being taught in schools today, it is the fault of the educators and employers constantly moaning and whinging at each other and blaming “political correctness” rather than working together whilst everything goes to hell in a basket – the perennial British disease of terminal whinging…
For instance it was the media organisations themselves who pushed for the much derided subject of media studies to be taught in school and college; only to deny its students a career in the industry when they had actually done the work – and those who complain that “electronic communication” is reducing peoples own spelling and grammar skills are often the same business people who lobbied for “business IT courses” in the 80s and 90s (which merely taught people how to use a PC in the office to solve already “deskilled” business problems rather than actually learn about how it works and what to do when it doesn’t)
its also a way the business community tries to justify chucking British kids on the scrap heap in order to outsource work to other parts of the World..
Any problems with the value of education nowadays are certainly not the fault of young people who have to give up a large chunk of the best years of their life, often for little reward at the end of it…
and if you didn’t do as well as you hoped it is not a disaster. Not having the right academic qualifications does not make you any less of a human being….
