Pretty much i love my vinyl decks but i’m now at uni and cant afford to keep buying tunes, plus i wanna start mixing other genres and have only been able to concentrate on hard trance as its all my bank would let me explore.
What would people suggest? Some of the vinyl influenced decks look quite interestingbut some just seem like a bit of a gimmik.
What would be the best choice for someone running on a budget!?October 14, 2008 at 2:59 pm #1180947DJ CD Players – Citronic – MPCD-S3 CD/MP3 Player – decks.co.uk
ive just bought two of those … nice decks, i used a pair at a gig not so long ago and they suprised me … i normally would go for the stantons again but their just a little too much …
it really depends on what you prefer with cd decks …
ive done a few posts on other threads on the subject but ill give you a few pointers … you can search the other posts at your own speed …
– Theres normally 3 types of cd deck … begginer (bottom end gemini’s, stantons and the numark axis 4) now these decks although theyll work to begin with the lasers normally go on them quite quick (2 years?) and this could lead you into some trouble a little way down the line … especially live! Intermediate … (middle range stantons (c314), numark axis 9, Citronic mpcd) these are normally a little better built BUT you might be caught out … the prices can jump dramtically due to them just sticking effects on it … for example today i saved 100 quid instead of getting a pair of the model above (the cdS6) all because i wont have an effects unit BUT i still keep the same model of laser as the upper models. and then theres all the top end models such as the pioneers and the top end models of the brands ive already listed.
– Jog wheels, I prefer begun’s, i think it gives me more control over what im doing with the track (this is even used with sample manipulation) some models label them being for scratching but really if you wanna learn scratch … getta turntable.
Their are a few other things that differ between deck but generally their all around the same at the pricemark your going for …
try these websites for some research
youtube (see you one you like? go have a look at a demo), decks.co.uk (cheapest and most reliable), djstore.com
any probs, questions just pm
Tom 🙂
October 14, 2008 at 5:38 pm #1180945Cheers for the advice mate i’m gonna bounce about town over the weekend and chat to some people in shops and have a wizz on a few. Never used them before tho so hopefully i’ll be able to to make a good judgement.
Why do vinyls have to cost soooooooo much money!???!?!?!?!October 14, 2008 at 5:50 pm #1180946Just found another post and someone (i think it was you) said that you dont wanna buy anything under £250. Is that for the pair or for the single deck? I dont wanna buy anything that is pretty much worthless but as i said have a very tight budget.

that 250 mark is for a single deck and is because i use my equipment at gigs etc so they need to be a bit more on the ball … the pair i bought today though i would have no probs pounding out a few house parties with and home use etc … when you play places they normally have resident or promoters decks anyway 🙂

October 17, 2008 at 5:43 pm #1180943If you wanna look a shade under 250, my first semi serious set of cd decks was some numark axis 9’s.
They’re not what you’d consider industry standard and do have a slightly different cueing method to setups like Pioneers but they kept me well happy for a good few years, were pretty solid and reliable, have some pretty useable effects built in.
I was using em when I started playing on here regularly and they never let me down. I did reach the point when I could afford it where I needed to progress and now have some Pioneer CDJ 800’s and it was only really then that a few of my vinyl purist mates started to pay attention but I still wouldn’t have a word said against my numarks, they did just the job I needed em to do at the time I needed!
It’s probably also worth noting that they’re still alive and well and currently living with my brother who’s cutting his DJ-ing teeth on em.
Good luck with the hunt mate
😉
