can the controller lane automation be mapped to a hardware midi controller (BCF2000) in reason 3 ?

Although having never done it I couldn’t say how to.
November 13, 2006 at 6:44 pm #1094136Just had a butchers at R3 and although I don’t have a midi controller I think I might have worked it out.
Right click the control you wish to automate on the device (not in the sequencer) and select “edit remote override mapping”
I THINK that you then must select the control uint you wish to use and then rotate/move the pot/slider/wheel that you wish to use so that it registers via midi to R3 and you can then assign that controler.
Not sure about this though, and you may have already tried it.
November 13, 2006 at 6:44 pm #1094146yes it will learn your controllers – tools or options menu I think:wink:
November 13, 2006 at 7:03 pm #1094144Should be an option called “midi learn” which will send the whole device panel a funny colour, and give it numbers (red is for keyboard, and as far as I remember, it goes green for midi).
Then you select any lane, and right click where you get an option to learn controller number from input. Move the slider/knob, and that should do it…:weee:
November 13, 2006 at 7:10 pm #1094140oh oh oh – thank you so much for putting this post up!!
I’d had a bit of a fiddle before and couldn’t suss it (dunno why cause there wasn’t that many options but hey its working now!!) could get the keyboard and pitch bend to work but nothing else – but now…
oh the possibilities seem endless!
Good luck your end Col :weee:

Just out of interest, how did you do it?
November 13, 2006 at 7:21 pm #1094141still can’t seem to get any auto mapping sorted – right clicked thing to automate (ie mixer level ch1 slider), selected Edit Remote Override Mapping, wiggled the slider I wanted, clicked ok, done. Same for knobs only you twiddle rather than wiggle 😉
Gonna have a bit of a play tonight – gonna also try assigning the same sliders to different instrunments and hopefully they’ll change depending on what I’ve got selected for midi input in the sequencer!

If you mean auto mapping as in assigning a custom standard midi setup, you need to set up your mappings, then save them in as a song (this is the only way reason will store custom map setups…)
November 14, 2006 at 3:32 am #1094130I’m not sure i got all that, my midi controller can already control all of the reason3 buttons, I just right click and lock to behringer, the problem is the controller lane itself, i can’t seem to get it to record the automation that I am inputting via the midi controller into the controller lanes in the sequencer.
I’m a bit confused and can’t see a clear cut method for doing this other than maybe routing it to the mixing desk and applying the various filters etc with the hardware as the tune is playing and then recording it via a line in source on the second computer’s soundcard, but if i make a timing mistake or that I’m screwed and will have to start again.
Alternatively, I could slave to cubase or export midi/audio loops from reason and use the hardware to control the automation there, only problem with that is i will have to program the controller myself as the Mackie and baby Hui emulation my controller offers is a bit shit with cubase.
maybe I’m gonna end up having to sit down for a few hours and actually program the bloody thing which takes away time from making the music itself.

Should just be a case of selecting the required device in the sequencer (making sure midi & record are highlighted next to the sequencer track) pressing record then play and off you go. I guess you’ve already tried this plenty of times already though so I don’t know the answer to your problem.
Good luck!

Woot i was just messing around there and worked out where i was going wrong, I was trying to automate the channel without creating a sequencer track for that particular channel.
fkin yeeha, now i can get on with my music at long long last

November 14, 2006 at 4:30 am #1094132I was trying to actually automate the controller lanes in the sequencer itself as i thought it would be similar to the way R and W functionality operates in Cubase.
sometimes the problem is so simple you completley overlook it
November 14, 2006 at 4:50 am #1094133lets aaaaaaaaaaaav it

Did a bit more research too and it looks like Sound On Sound may be doing a ‘using reason live’ article this month if anyones interested.
Oh the possibilities!!!!
