June 25, 2007 at 7:35 pm #1114340If you’re just after a listing of licensed events Dont Stay In is quite good. Just google it and it should pop up. It’s basically a listing of all the bars, clubs festivals and events in certain areas. It’s pretty popular (bit too popular for my tastes) but last time I looked there was a little Reading Crew forming up (i used to live in Basingstoke and like to know what’s going on ‘back home’)

June 25, 2007 at 10:09 pm #1114338I lived in Reading from 1977-1981, 1983-1990 and 1992-2006..
There was a big underground rave following in Reading (at one point half of Partyvibes content and posters were from there or the surrounding areas – it was the hub of the Thames Valley rave scene!)
but a combination of people rinsing all the warehouses, trouble at the legal venues, people doing too many drugs (and getting addicted) and the inevitable clampdown from Thames Valley Police has “downsized” the scene quite a bit.
There are a few more underground nights at a venue called Plug and Play which is tucked away on an industrial estate between Reading and Caversham (a suburban area to the North of the town), but I think a lot of the people who put on these events are busy doing teknivals in foreign countries as its easier now to get away with them there!
Things tend to pick up towards the winter. If you want more underground music (including a lot of live/homegrown stuff) look out for a crew called Ketwork32 putting on events…
