but how many people have never used a form of drug for escape?
How many use the legal ones for it and due to the lack of a consistent across the board policy for all of them are abusing the legal ones thinking they are ‘safer’ than the illegal ones?
The rank hypocrisy in the classification of some drugs for political gain or national profit isnt helping the attempts to communicate drug responsibility.
I dont agree that parties were necessarily better backin the day – they were just a long time ago and our rose tinted memories may have erased some of the negative aspects while keeping they good memories which is a human thing we all do 😉

exactly – this is something many crews do or did as a matter of routine, but in more recent times things have unfortunately got more confrontational in some areas…
incidentally there wasn’t a time when it was “ravers paradise” in the early 1990s. Its just that it was a new phenomenon then. The late 90s and early 21st century were good merely because we had the march over the authorities with regard to communications and social networking and got away with far more than today.
The bigger problems affecting the rave scene are very recent and as much to do with peoples increasing selfishness as the pressure from outside forces. Ketamine doesn’t help, and you have to ask yourself why it is so popular today when it was available all through the 1990s with less risk to dealers, yet no one wanted it as much.
it does also appear that people dumbing themselves down and letting their organisational skills slip whilst at the same time the cops are getting smarter (there are also a fair few old skool ravers now in a uniform!)
But even the youngest on here would have been only just leaving middle school when these problems started making an impact on the party scene. its probably not too late to make things better, but it may mean a return to the smaller and less blatant events where people can trust one another (it is perhaps these that the “older” ravers look back to!)

December 11, 2007 at 11:36 am #1126601Might be a simple answer but:……..:
Is this just not like saying cartoons were better back in the day etc? Things change, doesn’t mean its better or worse……………….
The scene is not dying it will just evolve….

ironically this is what the better early 90s raves were like!

that chart is proper nonsense
heroin has little potential for harm as long as a clean supply is available and the user knows how to administer it safely
solvents on the other hand have a significant risk of death, as does GHB. alcohol damages almost every organ in your body, including the brain, even at low doses.

but surely government research suggestin ecstasy at 25th, acid at 21st etc. whereas alcohol at 5th is still a sign that they are at least re-thinkin
plus
““an accurate and up to date classification system” was to “remove the link with penalties and just focus on harm”, adding that this meant social consequences as well as harm to the user.”
so its not just harm

December 11, 2007 at 2:37 pm #1126604Everyone tends to look back at past parties with slightly rose coloured glasses. The first free festi i went to was brilliant but i was 16 and i had no expectations. Now i’d view it as a shambles running out of diesel at 11ish and then a bunch of fucked hippies trying to sort it out so no music for about 6 hours.
The sound quality and organisation of parties is so much tighter these days. In the early 90’s things were alot less harsh in terms of police but then things were smaller, it is a myth about huge parties most very only 200 people. The few that get mentioned were because they were huge and not the run of normal things, Castle morten and some tek’s on beaches.
The big difference is police being muched more clued up and they are especialy sussed if you try anything that is linked to political/ green issues. But hopefully all this will lead to people going out just as much and them looking back and again moaning how things aren’t as good, drugs aren’t as strong etc.
But on a seperate note the magic of seeing the sun come up while standing in a field with a bunch of mates listening to a big tune for the first can’t be beaten and is beautifuly addictive.December 11, 2007 at 2:37 pm #1147561Everyone tends to look back at past parties with slightly rose coloured glasses. You are right about the rose-tinted specs (plurry specs!) – I still wear mine of course.
We suffered hours, nay, DAYS, of no music, all those years ago, so that future generations could party in the future! We trudged miles trying to find parties, and went without water for days, as there weren’t the health and safety rules back then.I would do it all over again, still do as often as i can, but my kids don’t let me out as much now that they are taller than me lol grrrr . . . .
For i am ‘Ardcore dontcha know 😉

toilets were a huge trench, 20 foot deep, with boards over them. as the weekend went on, the boards fell in the trenches and as the sun went down, so did a few toilet visitors
“if you need the toilet in the night, find a hedge,” was my lullaby
