Hi General Lighting ,
Funny what you just said as i had a conversation with lad of our age whose kids are in their teens , same dilemma . I guess you can only warn them , think just like we did we only learn from our own mistakes . Teens usually don’t listen as we are classed as old and so wouldn’t know about these thing and of course they know it all lol …………..now i sound old lolregards

May 8, 2011 at 7:12 pm #1129253thats even worse than England! Here shops are open on Sunday from 10:00 – 16:00 – I think you cannot buy alcohol until 11:00 though.
I was careful yesterday to buy enough booze to last the weekend though, or I would have to go to the corner shop which is over a mile away and I never am happy to lock my bike up outside there as its a bad area full of crackheads and smackheads..

May 8, 2011 at 7:34 pm #1129477I was not as clever as you…I ran out of beer now the kiosk is closed and the local bar take 2 quid a beer, so now I have choice drink havana club straight, stolli vodka straight, ouzo, red wine or Amarula fruit cream(like baileys but with a touch of fruit originally from south africa) …or water, got also some single malt irish and scottish whisky, three kinds of cognac and van oosten bitter but I am not into that, its for my guests
in dk you can get alcohol 24/7…they have even made the law in a way so even when bars/clubs have to stop serving they are allowed to sell out of the house due to complaint about the night open kiosks could sell as long they wantedMay 8, 2011 at 7:34 pm #1158680I was not as clever as you…I ran out of beer now the kiosk is closed and the local bar take 2 quid a beer, so now I have choice drink havana club straight, stolli vodka straight, ouzo, red wine or Amarula fruit cream(like baileys but with a touch of fruit originally from south africa) …or water, got also some single malt irish and scottish whisky, three kinds of cognac and van oosten bitter but I am not into that, its for my guests

the nearest decent pub for me is the other side of the docks (I sometimes go there with friends) but its a long way and on that path I crashed on and fell in the puddle and the only other route is on the busy road. There is a annoying one way system in my town too, and although some areas allow you to go against the traffic on a cycle lane, in others its illegal and dangerous..
the problem with England is everything in a town is geared to individuals/groups in cars who want to spend money in town. Everything else, smaller businesses, nightlife, friends, parties, come second. I was discussing this with my friend who is from Denmark over the bank holidays..

May 9, 2011 at 7:27 pm #1150023Hi General Lighting ,
Most things in this country now revolve around money …….enviroment has some say but in the end its all about the money !!!!! . Risk assesments and health and safety …..two of the biggest problems of my job . When once it was all about risk and health and safety now its okay yes we said this but ( it costs money ) so now we reckon you dont need it . People be prepared for your boss/head of department to say ” we dont need that any more “……hard times ahead i think .My job is held up by health and safety ………but we have always done risk assesment in one form or another . Yet were as before certain risk assesment and health and safety said no ……now its okay …….but its not for the better no its to save money !!!!
When i started my job back in the 1990’s…..okay 1990 …….a manual was a guide line and equipment had certain uses but in an event we was encouraged to use this equipment in what ever way to achieve our goal . Adapt and over come ……make do !!! , in other words we would do what ever we could with what ever we had to achieve the aim . Now its no wait till this arrives ….etc . Game over is all i say , i want to put the bollocks back in my job and fuck off all these pen pushing clip board wearing twats .
RANT lol
regards

MungoMay 9, 2011 at 7:50 pm #1129256I am the head of department where I work and we are having to cut back on some spending and put off things like upgrades to PCs but luckily people I work with realise this..
but still we have these “consultants” who make money out of finding dangers – in the comms room at a new site was a cardboard box of cables and other stuff (I have been doing 40-60 hours weeks installing all the equipment so there hasn’t been time to make it look pretty) and this fire safety consultant who we have to employ to get our government registration says its a risk to have that box, so I have to go there and put all the cables into plastic boxes, so this is extra time and money when my priority is keeping the equipment working so folk can communicate (ironically often with the NHS / Ambulance Service so vulnerable people are safe)
its not as if anyone other than myself, my staff, BT Openreach and occasionally the duty manager would be in the comms room anyway, its kept locked shut and I personally made sure all the electric is safe in there -if I need to I will spend time custom building mains cables even tinning the ends with solder to ensure they won’t short circuit)

Then you know what i mean , now fire safety training ……….arse . You dont have to be a fire fighter or anything even related to that job . Seems any ass hole can teach it , and yes i know what you mean as your work space can only be accessed by the correct people .Where i work we have armed guards……a fence……and patrols yet still we couldn’t have an old aircraft frame for our training !!!! . As if kids or any one else got in and got hurt !!!! its our fault !!!!! . Bollocks the twats shouldn’t have been there , you got bt frame room , authorized personnel only , high vaultage keep out …..or words to that effect . We got keep out or you get shot ……any one found tresspassing will be escorted of the site and shot …in fact just look and you will be shot !!!! ……okay i do exaggerate but come on what do you expect .Fuck em , they hold our jobs up General Lighting ……so lets shoot them get the job done and we can all go home early and have some quality time …..what do ya think? . Free season of fire safety wankers that know nothing , health and safety wankers that know nothing and any one that says oh you cant do that …….but ive done this since i was trained ……wankers lol

May 9, 2011 at 8:39 pm #1129480They had cut back consultants here in dk that in the end often cost more than the cut back, it so obvious that there is another agenda the right wing bastards have, they want to break the last part of the back the unions…so there really can be master and servants again…
