i think lambeth covers quite a big area.. but we weren’t walking anywhere near there really. our route was main, well-lit roads. i’m so mad. how is it any of the polices business?
its odd that Lambeth division get involved there is only a very slim chance your route would take you into their area (hardly think you are going to all walk down Streatham High Road) but its same reason why raves are supposed to be licensed. Also in your case most probably a psychological tactic. I bet they wouldn’t have locked off a similar walk by women in their 40s or 50s, but the cops want to make you angry against young lads what might be gangsters rather than perhaps tolerate them or even look up to them. When cops feel they aren’t given enough conventional power they use other methods to divide up society..
March 4, 2011 at 6:11 pm #1128633Anonymouswell, GL, i’m mad alright.. but at the police D: what meanies! it’s for charity! i’m going to be even less safe now it’s just a small group of 3 girls doing the first half of it.

might be worth explaining this to a sympathetic tutor/ student counsellor or whatever they call the person what does that job in college nowadays – whoever deals with student safety at your college…
they usually have to liaise with Police anyway, so get them to go to the sargeant in that area and the Police Authority (who hand out the cash to cops) and point out its not acceptable to limit everyones freedom as that means the gangs have won – if it means Bojo has to spend more cash to ensure theres coppers to bust gangs and to ensure a charity walk is safe then it has to happen – there shouldn’t be a price put on freedom.
80 miles away in bumpkinland the cops didn’t say “oh, its too expensive” and let the scum who were killing marginalised young girls who had ended up sex workers get away, they also dealt with a wider rise in violent crime in 2006, so its ludicrous really the Met Police don’t have the resources to deal with gangs and keep a load of middle class girls doing something good for charity safe….

March 4, 2011 at 11:31 pm #1149801Arguing, apparently, with girlfriend – not entirely sure what about. She’s third girlfriend in a row just said I have the emotional capacity of a brick though. I’d be more upset, were it not for my zero tolerance policy on irony.

March 5, 2011 at 4:34 pm #1129246any idea of the motive? was it a irate neighbour trying vigilanté stuff or just someone who brought the axe to the rave and got sent out and told to either disappear or return minus their weapon losing the plot?

dunno who he was or what his motives were. theres rumours going round that someone got it in the head and chest. but i really doubt this. it would have made the news if it was true. a couple of people did get beaten up tho..
that was the last brighton party im getting involved with. brighon squat parties are getting worse than london parties..a couple of years ago police turned up at a party looked for “a dead body” then a party in portslade someone got hit on the head with a hammer on the dancefloor. now this..
