Na I find once you stop drinking it gets a little hard at first to ocupy your time … but it’s purely thewithdrawrals form booze .. once you’ve totaly got it out of your system you’ll be so much more relaxed … I rember when I stopped drinking every day … I felt like smashing my head against the wall alot of the time … after a few weeks … it started to ease up .. still was an effort but nothing like the first few weeks.

True true, with luck a job is awaiting me. Its really just the utter bordom I have trouble with I spose. But then I am coping and not drinking etc so perhaps I just like to moan a lot lol
when you start working/finding other things to occupy yourself things will get better. I was going through a stage of drinking loads at weekends just to get through the day as most of my raver friends have drifted away or I’ve distanced myself from them due to wanting to avoid ketamine culture.
In the end I had to get used to “loneliness” and spend a lot of time doing stuff like working on bikes, DIY etc, but also I’ve met a wider group of friends through involvement with environment groups etc…

so glad I am not drinking as a way to cope, now that would be very messy indeed. Sure your right and not drinking is part of the bordom. But I never drank daily just intermitently, but often to deal with the bordom lol

February 25, 2011 at 6:08 pm #1131701yeah the thing is that because booze becomes a way of dealing with boredom and shitty emotions it’s alot harder to adust to not having much to do without it then if you never used it as a way of coping in the first place … it’ll just take time and some effort to adapt.

March 4, 2011 at 4:12 pm #1128630AnonymousGAAAH! SO MAD! they just cancelled out trafalgar square to redhill walk. because apparently, lambeth police have told us it’s unsafe as they’ve had extra police out in the last few nights to deal with gang violence.. and we’re not even walking through fucking lambeth! D: shouldn’t police be concerned with more pressing issues than ruining our charity walk?
so to vent my extreme anger, i may possibly walk the 40 miles (and 16 hours) from brighton to redhill D:<<< as they're still allowed to do that one.

I’m a bit confused as I’m originally from South London (born in Lewisham and grew up in Catford and New Cross) and yes, you wouldn’t normally walk through Lambeth to get to Redhill.
However the metpol divisional boundaries have all changed and “Lambeth” cops probably do cover a much wider area than when I used to live there.
I think what cops are doing though is stuff like this as a barganing method against budget cuts – by cancelling “nice middle class” activities they make people angry in the hope they will say to Boris Johnson “spend more money on policing” or (even more wishful thinking) they will miraculously grass on anyone they think are “gangsters”..

i think lambeth covers quite a big area.. but we weren’t walking anywhere near there really. our route was main, well-lit roads. i’m so mad. how is it any of the polices business? i’m either going to walk from brighton, which is twice as far and will kill me, or from trafalgar still. except instead of a big group of us, it’s just gonna be us 3 girls and we’ll meet the rest at wimbledon.

its odd that Lambeth division get involved there is only a very slim chance your route would take you into their area (hardly think you are going to all walk down Streatham High Road) but its same reason why raves are supposed to be licensed. Also in your case most probably a psychological tactic. I bet they wouldn’t have locked off a similar walk by women in their 40s or 50s, but the cops want to make you angry against young lads what might be gangsters rather than perhaps tolerate them or even look up to them. When cops feel they aren’t given enough conventional power they use other methods to divide up society..
