That sounds fucking nasty, Luton is a right shithole.
October 21, 2010 at 4:32 pm #1131875no sniffer dogs. i guess they just took one look at me an thought i was carrying drugs. dreads. piercings. general shady look i spose. probably didnt help that i looked really stoned. and with my criminal record which are all drug offences. i know they are just doing their jobs but i was truly sincere an you would think they were trained to pick out the wronguns an people who are trying to hide something. fuckin glad i didnt bring anything back with me.. it did cross my mind when i was walking to amsterdam train station an walked past the last coffeeshop an i had about 50 euros on me, thought i might aswell stock up.
last time i flew to the dam via luton i didnt even have to show my passport when i got back in the UK, just picked up my bags an out the door!October 21, 2010 at 4:32 pm #1168142no sniffer dogs. i guess they just took one look at me an thought i was carrying drugs. dreads. piercings. general shady look i spose. probably didnt help that i looked really stoned. and with my criminal record which are all drug offences. i know they are just doing their jobs but i was truly sincere an you would think they were trained to pick out the wronguns an people who are trying to hide something. fuckin glad i didnt bring anything back with me.. it did cross my mind when i was walking to amsterdam train station an walked past the last coffeeshop an i had about 50 euros on me, thought i might aswell stock up.

October 21, 2010 at 4:41 pm #1129170there is a zero trust policy at airports. plenty of people can look “sincere” and be carrying all sorts.
A relative of mine came to the UK to study from Malaysia. Although the rest of his family are Christian, his mum is Muslim and in Malaysia if you have one Muslim parent you inherit the religion and its on your ID card. So when he came to the UK as a single male travelling he had a 2 hour immigration interview and check immediately after getting off the plane (no criminal record BTW and he isn’t even a practising Muslim)..
An old hippy couple I know (old enough to be my parents) who travel between SE England and the Benelux countries are always searched as they fit all the profiles. Although they are not subject to such harsh searches as younger folk (one has mobility problems!) and have no previous for drugs, the authorities still check.
I vote with my wallet and don’t bother travelling! The only reason I’m renewing my passport is I need it for ID purposes. When the wider population clamours for “safer societies and strong borders” this is what we end up with.

Borders and Immigration have full access to PNC by various methods and private companies help them link the databases together. bear in the core govt computer systems are about 40 years old and much of the data on them could fit on a single decent size server. if they kept a megabyte of info on every UK citizen (which is a large books worth of text reports) its only about 61 terabytes.
Facebook shifts more than that every day..

St Mungo patron saint of all rejectsbar code and OCR text (its written in that 1960s “old computer” style font for a reason ) brings up all the same information. CCTV and computers date back from the 1960s, big brother started watching before either of us were born. its just that the technology is more versatile nowadays.
