Bit creepy init
March 15, 2006 at 8:46 pm #1068943I know.. all lurkers please register and reveal yourselves…(well not literally…but let us know who you are…)
March 15, 2006 at 9:24 pm #1068942I check the IP addresses every now and then to see who these “guests” are.
Many are ravers who are just lurking (we get a lot of traffic from colleges and uni residence hall net circuits), a few journos (including BBC / ITV / daily papers and some from other nations), and lots of random people who have perhaps found this site through google; from all parts of the world (I’ve seen domains from countries where I didn’t even think they had Internet!). A lot of people on the net nowadays may not speak English as their first language, and may be a bit shy for a variety of reasons.
Not all countries have some “freedom of speech” like the UK and Europe – discussing drug use or political activism on a connection monitored by a nations security forces or even by employers could get people in trouble. Also lets say you knew a bit of Chinese but not very much and went on to a Chinese messageboard – I’m sure you would be shy about posting on there!
There are also, a handful of cops and government agencies who monitor this site; mostly the party posts and drugs stuff. They are mostly in the UK, USA but we get a few others from France and Canada. This is to be expected – some of the stuff we discuss is against the law whether we like it or not!
Also, when you type “free party” into Google partyvibe is highly ranked and we make no attempt to stop this happening.
Partyvibe has always been set up as an open access site where anyone can read or contribute – friend or foe. we try to keep discussions civil but all opinions are allowed provided no-one is advocating actual violence against one another…
We’ve had a couple of people post here to whinge about raves disrupting their locality and even a Catholic anti-abortion campaigner; and even Wiltshire Police warning people not to put on raves! However anti-rave types tend not to stick around long for some reason 😉
When we discuss UK Government laws/policy and link to the OPSI (formerly HMSO) sites about laws, the Government bods can see this and they look here to see what we are talking about. MP’s sometimes also look here when they have complaints about raves (you see now why the mods tell people to be careful about what they post on the public board?)
And last but by no means least (making up the largest number of guests), many are not human. No, not the politicians – but “robots” or “spiders”. These are computers that check what is on websites and feed them back to the search engines. Some sites block out these robots but we don’t mind them as it helps people find info through search engines, and increase our sites audience.
Even if we can’t say too much about British free parties we can advertise legal events worldwide and also put our case across for supporting our alternative lifestyles, so the more people who access this site the better.

Only 1592 to account for now, then…
