why would having an i.d card on me go against me in either of those situations?
Does it matter whether or not you were prosecuted? you said yourself that you had done nothing wrong, but in the eyes of the law you are a criminal. So you are wrong when you say that. Although in your opinion (and mine), you have done nothing wrong, the govt, who makes the laws and the ID cards think you have. I disagree with many of the laws, and you may too, but it doesnt stop the fact that as a criminal, why would you support anything which makes your crimes harder to commit? (obviously only stuff like parties, nothing serious)

This is exactly why an ID card will go against you. if you are caught on CCTV, with an ID card database, you are much easier to track, and will mean the DNA database just expands. How can you be for one type of surveillance (ID cards) and against another (CCTV) when they have such similar effects.
rach wrote:and i think Tony Blair has done a hell of a lot worse things, declaring war perhaps? Not in my opinion. I was against the war, and think Blair is a cunt for it, but my views on that are complicated and i cant be fucked to talk about that now. My view on ID cards is way more simple. No.
Plus, ID cards are supposed to stop illegal immigrants and terrorism. Whats the big deal about illegal immigants really? Whats the problem with them? They can’t steal our jobs (cause theyre illegal) can’t really steal our healthcare (thyre illegal) and are they here to scrounge off the state? Would you travel thousands of miles in horrific conditions to a country totally alien to you, getting into debt with the mafia and shit, just to be on the dole? I think not.
And as boothy and someone else said, tackle the root of the problem, terrorism is homegrown in general and anti-social behaviour wont stop if we create more surrveilance. The govt is just wasting our money and we’re getting too close to a surveilance society (even though we are one already really).May 18, 2007 at 12:00 am #1104890globalloon wrote:anyway, you haven’t answered my points about why the two main excuses the government have given for bringing in ID cards are bullshit 😉im going to blame this on the dyslexia and never post about anything to do with our government again … brggh i never understand but try … ill stick to me tunes and just keep nodding my head 🙂

May 18, 2007 at 9:45 am #1104878The “war on terror” is the biggest fucking con going, its used to rush through various pieces of legislation that are designed to make us safer, when in actual fact all that is happening is the government is getting more control over the population. Id cards are not going to protect us from muslim fundamentalists because they are no real threat. I grew up in the 80’s when the ira were bombing the mainland on an almost daily basis and i dont see how id cards would have stopped them. We are in real danger of turning this country into a police state its already started to happen when blair basically asked the police what new laws the needed to uphold public order. The police are here to uphold laws not make them when they start doing both we’re fucked. I say its time for less police and cameras and time for people to take more responsibilty for themselves and their community.

May 18, 2007 at 9:55 am #1104880from what i can gather you have until August to renew and receive an “old style” passport, which will keep you off the system until 2016.
Though I expect there is a lot more about us on the system already than we would have suspected.:hopeless:
