im working in london , that`s realy cool , i think …..
so… hm.. i am not affraid of it (for the moment, im gonna study later)I’m a courier too :surprised :horay:
Got 4 wheels – yellow, can’t miss me in da countryside innit (not always a good thing)Big respect mate, us couriers have a hard time and get treat like shit mostly. But – the upside is i get to drive around norfolk, get some fresh air, see plenty lush scenery, meet interesting peeps, listen to me choons, smoke/eat/drink when i like, and, as long as i get the job done, they leave me the fuck alone!
Also, i have got some lovely pics on my mobile, then put onto laptop, keepsakes of my travels! bit of an amateur with computing, haven’t been brave enuf to post any yet.
Couldn’t go back to working indoors, stuck in one place now, no way.I have a theory (plenty time to ponder life, whilst on road) that maybe its a certain type of person who suits this job? I really believe that i am better off on the move, have brief and pleasant interaction with customers (mostly!) and not in one place long enuf for people to get too curious about me,and they get the best of me! and vice versa! Any thoughts on this anyone?!

I’ve always thought driving/cycling about listening to tunes all day would be great. Breif interaction with people to break up the day sounds good too.

 Yeh u know that. I love driving, wish i could drive forever! It is one way of travelling a bit, even if only to the next county lol! But – If they knew me toooo well, they mite wonder if i should be doing this job! If they knew what i get up to at weekends lol. Well, security is a big part of it.
But . . .I AM NOT DODGY! I DO NOT STEAL! I CAN BE TRUSTED!
(I put my heart and soul into the job, do the best i can for the company, and the customers. Often with added ‘tears before bedtime’!)
Society in general tend to think that if you take any drugs, or listen to certain styles of music, then u must be ‘up to no good’.
Also, for a woman of 40 something years, some view my lifestyle as ‘wierd’. :crazy_fre Mind you, i don’t know anyone my own age who loves avin it to heavy basslines all night:horay: , or mixin it up at home til i like!!! :horay: Shame. Boring fuckers!

I know a good number of people in their 40s or even older who regularly attend raves.
However I have noticed a trend (even amongst ravers) to think “its a young persons lifestyle” and definitely there seems to be a prejudice from wider society for older people to get involved.
The cops and peoples parents think you are some sort of deviant trying to corrupt the youth or a bad parent if you have kids of your own 🙁
I think its becoming a big problem in East Anglia as people think “raves are only selfish little kids events done on other peoples resources” when in fact they are (or were) part of a wider alternative mindset and lifestyle.
that said a lot of older people do attend raves but don’t like talking about it for the reasons above.
We need more people of all ages to join on line communities like this , and to argue for their lifestyles to continue as it is reaching a crunch point where parties are being pushed further and further into really remote areas!
Quote:I AM NOT BAD, I HAVE JUST BEEN MISREPRESENTED IN THE PRESS!yeah I know exactly what you mean. Most ravers have responsible jobs, some are even parents themselves and many give positive/sensible advice to their peers as well as encouraging them to have fun.
May 29, 2006 at 11:51 am #1062996Thanks GL, your words are really appreciated. Sometimes you need some positive feedback from others to keep the balance right. Too much negativity from the world grinds you down sometimes (as you could probably guess from my earlier posts/rants!). I feel loads better after reading that!
Now point me 2a party someone, i feel an attack of rebellion coming on! :crazy_fre
PLUR, group hugs, you know the score, and all that other stuff thats not cool anymore lol!

June 9, 2006 at 12:45 pm #1062992I work for Voodoophone, building cell sites. I’ve been in this industry for over five years now – since I “retired” from soundsysteming (ie we lost the all night license at the Boxing Club). My original backgorund is construction, so it seemed relevant to me. Nowadays, I drive a desk, controlling a bunch of installation contractors fitting internal systems into our corporate customer’s buildings, eg Canary Wharf etc.
Over the years, I’ve built several hundred sites on rooftops, inside buildings, on the street and in the fields. What always makes me laugh is seeing venues we have partied in over the years. One example was a really tall building in East London – from it I could see four previous party venues, including one that was still well tagged (NYE 96 I think) and one that had been transformed from the Green Man pub into a travellers inn!!
Big up to all the couriers – several of my crew and pals were/are couriers…the best was Jock, who used to work for the yellow van company, and who Orange Disco supplies got really paranoid cuz he was delivering several 1210s with a big OOOPS! sticker on the back of his van. His boss knew what we did, but had to stop Jock using the van when we got pulled coming out of Steart Beach (97/98 time). However, when he got a new van, which had Irish plates on, he was able to buy his own plate when it got re-registered in UK… V100 OPS.
Someone came up to me at the Boxing Club, and went “did you know that someone has your sound system name on their van?”. “yes” I answered, “that guy over there!”….
Anyways, having keys to the compounds found in many fields close to party venues has always seemed like a good excuse for being there – just a shame I don’t do parties no more 🙁
