Hey come on GL nobody has accused you of signing this petition in a ‘knee jerk reaction’. That sure sounded like a dig at me especially with your highlighted
not.
BTW any chance someone can write a ‘dernier cri’ on this subject or have I just done it?
it wasn’t intended as a dig at you; but more to point out that not everyone goes by the tabloids and is prepared to do their own research, stand by what they believe in and not backtrack. I have no regrets for signing the petition, knowing the campaigns failings.
I once wanted to become a reporter BTW and view every report on crime/violence very carefully and am aware of the distortions of various media outlets. I also am aware every media outlet is spun to suit peoples agendas. Thats what the media is all about.
TG – I agree with what you are saying but paradoxically the media is also skewed because of the protocols on reporting these cases!
The Police and Courts do not encourage reporting of abuse within families (other than high profile cases such as Fred West etc) to protect the victims confidentiallity. Obviously once the surname or region gets out its easy to work out who’s who…
Therefore the distortions are proliferated; there’s no solution to this – and no immediate or easy solution to the wider problems.
