December 15, 2013 at 2:30 pm #1276277I even remembered to switch off the remote meta update program so it didn’t cut across the auto DJ metadata when restarted (normally its the other way round, the “auto DJ” metadata runs in background and overwrites what is there. Hopefullly the “Dutch style” trick I did with the twitter and phone number appearing every 15 seconds didn’t knacker the recordings of the streams by splitting them up (or maybe rippers can be set to not do this)
for those who are curious I found that a 3 sim will still work for texts even if there is no data credit, and I found an Ericsson C902 from a couple of years ago that still works and can even be connected via USB without trying to take over the LAN on the PC (as I only want the texts)

wish i could spell too
it seems that with most modern Germanic and Scandinavian languages (other than English), they wait until you have finished school/college and then change the spellings (a person of our parents age who grew up in NL or DE would have lived through three spelling reforms, and in Denmark at least one and the addition of å )
This is from a door to a lab/observatory some brainy Danish professors were using to look at the sky/stars etc and they saw (I think) ball lightning. I guess they raised the floor to make it easy to put other platforms on for telescopes, but realised that profs with their heads in the sky (and possibly reading a book at the same time as walking around) might not notice the step
The English also adopted the word “egg” from “æg” as it was previously “ey” (as in NL/DE Ei).

December 17, 2013 at 1:20 am #1276278excellent tunes – thanks to Daftfader for looking after everything and everyone who tuned in (sorry I missed Utah and dF in chat, on Sunday my mum rang and said she would be visiting over Christmas so I had to clean up the house and also get a mobile phone she had brought with her working again.

there is a reason why that particular sign is so significant in the history of Dansh astronomy ( Å was only added in 1948 apparently because Denmark did not want to use ä due to some unpleasantness from 1939-1945 with their neighbours )
there are some areas which are split between NL, DE, and DK (with a uniquie language) and sometimes the weather is that bad that even astronomers are faced with this.
„Locht, ual muun, locht!” rep Heewelmaan, man a muun wiar nochhuaren tu sen an a stäären uk ei; jo wiar al altermaal tu baad gingen.
“‘Shine, old moon, shine!’, cried Häwelmann, but neither the moon nor the stars were anywhere to be seen; they had all already gone to bed”
the observatory is still around today, albeit in a slightly different location and some bits modernised (the dome opens up via a 3 phase motor and sliding doors), and there are low brightness lamps inside so visitors aren’t walking through a lit corridor into darkness (the reason for the warnign sign)
the pic is from 1997, I am not sure if you are still allowed to smoke your pipe inside with EU rules
