This is not a joke or a pitch, the situation’s simple.
We have two weeks to raise the 500 pounds we need to pay for another year’s hosting or partyvibe has to close permanently!

October 17, 2004 at 8:18 pm #1062895AnonymousCheck out this site – they do free web hosting with one gig storage and 50mb/month bandwidth, or for one pound a month you can have one gig bandwidth! If that’s not enough you could always remove as many images as possible from the site to reduce bandwidth usage.

Hope this helps!
Best of luck

December 9, 2004 at 5:03 pm #1062907AnonymousHoly shit! danger to partyvibe! i hopr you are doin OK, coz i am brassic, it never occured to me this site cost any more than commitment to run! d’oh, if i had thought i could have sorted out a bit then. or done a fundraiser or summat.
Instead im just going to have to send concentrated positive energy to the crew and anyone who donates.
still, might do a fundraiser anyway, and secure the future of partyvibe for longer…

January 31, 2005 at 12:44 pm #1062904Is the problem bandwidth?
If so then what about taking the mp3 sets down from the site…they could be hosted on Partyvibe users pc’s and downloaded via Bittorrent, which might actually add to the community vibe.Using Bittorrent could reduce could dramatically reduce bandwidth costs.January 31, 2005 at 1:03 pm #1062908Anonymousi dont really get bittorrent..how does it work?
as for pv funds, i’m still up for a big, legal party in the summer to raise some funds…
…any ideas or support, im.
January 31, 2005 at 2:13 pm #1062906TBH the mp3s and videos are rather old, I don’t think they are the most popular bits of the site…
would of course know more, but I would expect most bandwidth is consumed by people (and searchbots) actually looking at the entries here; there are loads of lurkers compared to actual posters.
I do wonder if robots (they look at sites automatically and make up the entries on search engines) “steal” a lot of bandwidth – it is possible to block them out, OTOH if you do so the site does not get ranked on search engines (which attract new people) , nor would it stop someone “hostile” searching our site using modified software which ignored the “robots.txt” instruction file…
whats the current score on the fees situation anyway?
January 31, 2005 at 2:18 pm #1062909AnonymousYup, the video section is a bit sparse and rarely (never?) updated, which makes it a bit pointless. i spose bit torrent is kind of file sharing, which i think would be an excellent addition to the site… if it keeps changing, there’s reason to come back..
January 31, 2005 at 5:08 pm #1062905Bittorrent is more or less a fancy peer to peer network. If Partyvibe were to go down this route, then all they would have to host is the torrent files for each of the downloads and not the actual sets/videos themselves(a torrent file is on average about 30kb).Those actual sets/vidoes would be on Patyvibe users pc’s ,so the bandwidth consumed would be whoever was up/downloading and not the site. However if there isnt a great deal of traffic, then it might not be the best idea.
I think that as Use says,if the content of those sets were to change on a regular basis, and if they were done via a Partyvibe Bittorrent tracker then it could not only provide a reason for folks to return, but also add to the community of Partyvibe.Failing that, the only way i can think to reduce bandwidth is to remove things like avatars, big images etc.
