January 25, 2012 at 2:27 pm #1248443lol you met a girl there or something?
Be aware some bits regularly flood. Also there is civil war in other areas. TBH I’d stay nearer Manilla or built up places.
Tagalog is a difficult language and not everyone speaks English. The culture is closer to the US than UK (in comparison to Malaysia or SG). This also means that many men have guns, and are in the habit of carelessly discharging live rounds into the air at celebration times (dangerous, as bullets come back down with almost the same velocity as they went up). Why on earth they don’t use blanks for this purpose beats me – TBH I wouldn’t call a social occaision a “celebration” if you need a pistol with live rounds (unless you are actually going to the range which is fair enough).
Also leccy there is 230V but on US sockets and 60 Hz but with some 110V areas (really strange!) so if you are taking gadgets up there make sure they can work with this current (most new Japanese/Chinese stuff can). if you have more specific stuff let me know and I’ll ask folk at work…

yes, they now 6have a trade union for midgets. Bear in mind normal size people are shorter in hot countries anyway, at 1.66m height I am one of the taller men. Also tigers (not currently found in PH outside Manila Zoo) are smaller, but the small tiger is 2.60 to 2.80m long. So I would still give it a wide berth if its hungry.. I think this is Nature trying to balance things, as humans and tigers would eat everything else otherwise.
This is a South Chinese tiger. (A similar white tiger was at Colchester Zoo for some years, it was smaller than I thought it would be, but I am glad they aren’t running loose in the rural areas where I cycle..)
There are some crocodiles but they are endangered, though a really big one was caught recently (it is now being looked after by the Environment Ministry until they can build some sort of safari park for it).

January 25, 2012 at 7:57 pm #1248448what was he scared of? a guy with a gun… i know people i buy drugs off who carry pistols don’t scare me.
January 25, 2012 at 8:01 pm #1248452Not the gun in particular, he just told me it was a pretty intimidating place.

January 25, 2012 at 8:14 pm #1248453I agree mate. I think he had quite a big culture shock as well, which probably made it worse than it actually was.
