October 21, 2009 at 5:36 pm #1208943I wonder why he felt the need to shoot himself??
I might add that watching this did not shock me in any way. Have i become that desensitised to violence???

only because its on a screen and you have seen so much violence on screen it no longer seems real. I am sure if u were there u would have felt something interesting
October 21, 2009 at 5:59 pm #1208974I have come pretty desensitised to stuff like this, thanks to my curiosity to let myself watch fucked up shit on the Internet, when I was a bit younger I saw that Ken Bigley video for some Imature reason, man that messed my pea brain up.
October 21, 2009 at 6:43 pm #1208933I think another issue is that people get the wrong idea about guns from movies and TV, especially in countries where you don’t get much real life experience with firearms due to the laws.
TBH I’d expected there to be more blood/gore but after reading the other website (I posted a link here a while back) where “peepaw” (an American grandad) shot himself in the foot with a similar firearm the injuries seem consistent, particularly if its hollow point rounds where they have already fragmented and the bits are taking different routes through the body.
whats more chilling is the reason this (real) video was shown outside Police/FBI circles is the feds showed it to local community leaders to prevent a race war erupting, and someone managed to nick a copy and upload it to the net.
A lot of real people were affected by this (the families of the victims and those of the cops (he had previously shot a cop with the gun)) and they have had no say whatsoever about people thousands of miles away watching the film for entertainment – but thats the cost of “free speech”.
I actually think some of the material on the the internet has not just desensetised people watching stuff but in real life as well – people are blunter with each other, more willing to disagree and argue and even more willing to use physical violence against one another and thats at so-called “friendly” communities like raves!

snopes.com: The Last Interrogationmore violence than when? everyone seems to hark back to some era when man loved they fellow man. I cannot think of a single period in history that was safer than the one we live in now violence wise. Its just we are spoon fed the violence as it sells papers, gets viewers, hits etc. Least that’s what I fear.

more violence than the mid-late 1990s when there was better economic times. What I’m seeing is hardly a decline in society but just a return to how things were about 20-25 years ago.

*ponders* I would love to see some statistics, but then what’s the point as the way they are gathered and the length of time they have been gathered for must make them largely redundant. Perhaps things are getting worse. But overall still better surly? God I hate the world.
October 21, 2009 at 7:30 pm #1208975Different kind of violence nowadays, I know violence is violence, but I can never remember walking around where I live some years ago with little white kids talking like black people from London carrying knives and willing to use them. To them violence is a good thing. That was never around. Gangs where around but now like they are now, kids in this country are turning in to feral street urchins.

I’ve been interested in amateur criminology for about 2 decades now (perhaps an understandable interest when society declares many of your social activities to be crime ) and tend not to go by overall crime statistics but concentrate on verifiable frontline reports either direct from police press offices or local media (you need to be careful not to double count crimes or be taken in by opinion pieces of local papers).
Its hard to explain but I do understand what you mean by “things getting better”, yet at the same time maintain there is a decline.
The streets are getting safer for “normal middle england folk” and people what “keep themselves to themselves” – this is because there are a lot of CCTV and cops who are starting to clamp down a bit more – but I’ve noticed at social occasions with younger crowds that things are worse.. Of course I don’t hang around with thugs and knuckledraggers but even my own friends have ended up being involved in incidents of violence (as self defence) and this is at dance music events they have organised what are supposed to be fun social occasions – and this was much rarer just 10 years ago…

That’s cos there’s no discipline or respect anymore. I was bought up properly, if i got out of line i got a slap and it bought me into line. You don’t see that these days.
Might sound harsh but i think that’s what’s lacking in today’s society, Discipline.
October 21, 2009 at 7:50 pm #1208977How can people say the streets are getting safer in any way, statistics do not mean anything, so forget statistics, I know that I would not walk down certain areas now, that I would of happily walked down years ago. Labour have created a scum state.
October 21, 2009 at 7:57 pm #1208937I’m a Londoner and the scum state started long before 1997, some parts of London were going downhill in late 80s/ early 1990s when Thatcho was still in power.
whats happened is that normal people have simply stopped going out late at night or have become less adventurous, staying in venues/streets where there is CCTV / bouncers / cops – the predators know this too and therefore tend to target “alternative” places where people don’t co-operate with cops as much (hence the gangs constantly causing shit at London squat parties for instance)

You know it mate.
October 21, 2009 at 8:04 pm #1208939so how do you two suggest its dealt with? one way would be to declare curfew in all large cities and stop check anyone below the age of 45 seen after a certain time, there are enough cops to do this even outside metpol force area…
also certain music events have been proven to attract violence and these could be stopped.. (they may include drum and bass events)
would you accept this for safer streets (particularly as you’re still in the target age range?)

Well, if you were alive in Victorian times you may well have found the streets less safe? If you are talking about recent history and your own subjective experience, I would suggest largely its because you have lost the innocent and naivety of youth.
ignoring statics and relying on personal subjective experiences its not a sensible suggestion really, let alone blaming Labour lol

Well I suggest that it is dealt with in the first place. There are other ways to tackle crime other than police state tactics, ie stop checks. Be gone with all the over liberal lefees. We don’t see criminals as scum in this country, we see it as little victims with problems in there lives. Fuck no, shoplifting is now classed as a minor crime. Pedos don’t always go to prison, hardened car thieves don’t go to prison, and if cunt criminals do go to prison it is for a laughable time. fathers getting there heads stamped on repeatedly, till they die, and the murderess get thirteen years. Yeah I do partiality blame labour as they are the government. There is no deterrent to stop twats breaking the law, I know I could walk out of my house right now, rob a car across the street and drive it round, even have a police chase, and I will not go to prison. That is fucked.

So you think prison keeps society safe do you? are you aware of re-offending rates? are you aware that the vast majority of “pedos” were badly sexually abused as children? are you aware of the rates of mental health problems experienced by people who commit crime? do you have any sodding ability to see beyond your own Daily Mail based reality?
ps bearing in mind what this board is about, I suggest you look up the definition of irony.
October 21, 2009 at 8:28 pm #1208940if you don’t stop check people its hard to find out who is carrying the stolen goods or driving around in stolen cars – though nowadays its more not stop checking everyone but using ANPR and CCTV to check known suspect vehicles and targets.
but even then stop checking often turns up street robbers and especially those what carry weapons they should not have in a public place.
The prisons are full – the only way to free up space would be to let out non violent drug offenders, but to be fair most people in jail for drugs increasingly are there because they have been violent, and small time dealers rarely go down for long sentences.
With present laws, The “lack of deterrent” is also the same reason why any one of us what takes illegal drugs can get busted with a bag of drugs and not end up in prison because its “personal use” and why it took 20 years before anyone in East Anglia got sent down for holding a rave in Thetford forest/surrounding areas.
its easy to say “be gone with the liberal lefties” but you can’t have that and the party scene at the same time. The whole scene is built on drugs, and a certain amount of criminality (although rarely violent). As is the wider pop music scene and entertainment business, look at how many celebs do drugs and how many others have been working class criminals in their youth. to reverse the increasing trend towards social democracy in the UK and other similar nations which leads to the “lenient” laws of today requires a return to stricter lifestyles including religion playing a much bigger part in peoples lives like it did half a century ago, and more social control.
What would people rather have, “safe streets” or “freedom of expression”?

My god man, Why is it when someone says something about crime in Britain they are immediately branded a daily mail reader?????????
