Are you the next girl DJ?
The Next Girl DJ contest is looking to discover the hottest female DJ talent from across Europe and propel her into dance music stardom. Entrants can upload a mix to http://www.nextgirldj.com where the public will be casting their votes until 16th April.
Become a fan and find out more at http://www.facebook.com/nextgirldj.March 31, 2010 at 11:44 pm #1224674i’m a hot female dj

April 3, 2010 at 6:06 pm #1224676lol, i love how if there was a competition to find the “best male DJ” then women would cause a total riot, yet if its the other way around its encouraged.
im all for equality, but encouraging gender specific competition is doing the opposite to what it is trying to achieve, by making further divisions between males and females.
April 3, 2010 at 6:28 pm #1224671actually I’m wondering if this is even legal? Plus its linked to a mainstream journalist and London PR agency rather than anything “underground”.
I’ll flag it up for the rest of the mods to decide whether or not this is OK. On a lighter note, I remember when Disruption/Lunar teamed up with ABS (the ladies who DJ on “break it up”) for a similar event.
This ended up with Boshman turning up in a dress in order to get a set. if any of the local dudes such as Damo or Josh know whom I’m talking about this will be even funnier to think about – and its a reflection on the wide diversity of Suffolk’s female population that Boshman even found a dress in his size!

July 27, 2012 at 11:12 am #1224672an update (as I am looking for UK female voiceovers for some jingles for party vibe radio and had to research the law to make sure that we wouldn’t break EU discrimination law)
This sort of thing is just about allowed (as is asking for specific genders/accents for projects such as voiceovers) and the contest was cleared in countries with very strong gender rights.
it wasn’t that well promoted here in the UK, and most of the mixes and radio station links associated with it are 404 which is hardly “launching the girls careers”. I think most of the finalists and winners were (somewhat predictably) from mainland Europe. HU, AT, DK, DE and NL (this doesn’t surprise me 😉 – it does seem that female DJ’s in these nations are valued for skills as much as looks).
I think Party Vibe radio probably has had the most female DJ’s on it over the years of many stations (if you include the Break it Up shows, Vinyl Vera as well as AcidFairy)
