A while back I bought a three dongle for use at ICR when they didn’t have Internet. The credit has since run out, but I’ve worked out that it still connects and receives texts and will coexist with the WLAN on an existing laptop (though not my Linux machine although it is shown as eth1). Even if I unplug the dongle the messages are archived until its put back in.

And because its a proper UK mobile number that stops the problem with T-mobile that when you text to a “landline” number they automatically assume that it cannot accept a SMS termination and deliver it as a robot voice message – the Germans assume that the UK adheres strictly to the national dial plan (they also now encourage the use of 00 rather than + as sending a non numeric character through certain caller ID processing causes some gateways to reject the traffic on security reasons)

So we now have a new text line:

Please prefix messages with PVR: or VFR: and include info of which stream/show you are commenting on..
We can accept messages in UK / NL / FR / DE / DK / NO (at least one of our mods will understand them…)
