March 15, 2007 at 11:14 am #1100919i thought they where beginning to call it hardcore not rave?
if they call it hardcore who gives a flying weasel and to be honest even if they do call it ‘rave’ why bother caring?
isnt the vibe and the atmosphere that matters not the ‘name’ at the top of the door?

March 16, 2007 at 10:31 pm #1100910For anyone not yet familiar with the latest big thing, here’s the definitive nu rave alphabet presented by T-Mobile, they know a thing or two about rave… X is for Xstacy don’t ya know…
March 17, 2007 at 9:49 am #1100889hardcore has also been used as a term for various forms of punk rock back in the late 70s and 80s..
T-mobiles guide sounds rather more like a commercialised form of “old rave” to me :laugh_at:- then again mobile companies like rave and drug culture, it brings them lots of revenue each year
Emos becoming “new ravers” are more of an amusement to me than a threat to the scene, although I don’t like the way the marketing types are cherry picking the culture at the same time the backlash is threatening to close a lot of late night legal venues ( a combination of harsher licensing conditions, anti-drugs surveillance and the smoking ban )
What really does piss me off is UK garage heads calling their violence/gang ridden events “raves”, and by extension cops seeing all electronic dance events as a security risk because of this.

These people wouldn’t know a rave if it came and slapped their grandmother with a wet fish. Again am i ranting or has this annoyed anyone else?i feel the same, they just want to make their poor music sound more exiting than it is.

March 19, 2007 at 10:26 am #1100909For fuck sake. You lot sound like a bunch of whining bitches.
What does it matter what they are doing and what they call it. Just let them get on with what they enjoy!
As long as they’re not dancing in my field and stealing my drugs I really don’t care what they are doing/saying/wearing.March 26, 2007 at 6:13 pm #1100906Oh dear, this was the iceing on the cake. She’s a bit of a spanner really the whole “new rave” thing isnt for the likes of us, its all about bands and stuff.
March 27, 2007 at 12:41 pm #1100913Hello, Klaxons. As soon as we’d bought our day-glo hoodie, we discovered that new rave was just a joke. Should we feel a stupid now?
Jamie: It wasn’t a joke, in the sense that it was supposed to be a joke. The music isn’t a joke. It’s just that the two words being put together is an in-joke between me and my friends, and they shouldn’t have been classed as a musical genre. It’s not that the music or the movement that now exists is by any means a laugh. Because, you know, it’s seriously fun.
Simon: And it exists.
:laugh_at: so even the Klaxons admit it was a joke :laugh_at:March 27, 2007 at 1:29 pm #1100890there is absolutely nothing new about rave/dance crossovers, we had that in 1989 with Candy Flip “Strawberry fields forever”, the Happy Mondays / Madchester scene, EMF…
in some ways though if it gets all the emos taking pills/MDMA and smiling and wanting to go to “old raves” that isn’t a bad thing at all (and is essentially what happened to a lot of goths back in the early 90s) but the media are definitely trying to tout this as a “safe, sanitised, rave without all the drugs” experience..
BBC Essex were plugging new rave on their website in 2006, virtually in the wake of the “riot-rave” in that very same county…
