I know your not supposed to camp in non-designated areas of the NewForest, but i am looking for an out the way area for me and a few friends to camp.
The reason i would like it to be out of the way is so we can have tunes and relax without having to worry about other campers being offended. Also some campsites have rules and stuff that i cant be arsed with.
So does anyone know of an area that would be suitable?
any help will be greratly appreciated.
Cheers

April 16, 2007 at 2:01 pm #1103102me and my mates tried this about 2 years ago – we got away with it for a night at odd hours and even had our speakers investigated by the New Forest ponies – but in the morning loads of random campers and horse-riders turned up in the morning, and eventually two middle aged ladies from Forestry turned up and politely moved us on (I think we went to the seaside after that)…
April 16, 2007 at 2:03 pm #1103107Yeah its not going to be a massive gathering, probably 20 at the most.
The tunes would only be from a small disco set up too, then again if we do get moved on we will just set up else where.
But being in a secluded place where no one would see us would be handy!
April 16, 2007 at 4:07 pm #1103113well if anyone comes … such as the local commision … we all pose as ponies, you no like those costumes from pantos … i dont no what this would do,they may just take the equipment thinking the owner has vanished … or maybe theyd think we where super intelligant ponies and we’d make a mint touring the world and release a Hit #1!

April 17, 2007 at 12:02 am #1103106New Forest is so beautiful. My traveller mate Danny took me camping there once between Christmas and New Year. I can still remember the feeling of waking up with ponies everywhere. Went down to a beach later, Dinasaur plateu or something. He is such an amazing guy despite his occassional pyscotic rantings, i hope he is well where ever he is at this moment. I miss camping so much, i know i used to camp on my own alot in Africa, i just can’t get my head around doing it on my own here 😥 . I prefer non commercial campsites too.
I hope you find somewhere xApril 17, 2007 at 1:47 pm #1103109ooo just thought, does anyone know of a beach you can camp on? Now that would be a nice way to relax? 😉
April 17, 2007 at 1:57 pm #1103103you could try various spots around the East Anglian coast , but I would avoid the obvious tourist traps as they will get crowded as summer arrives.
April 17, 2007 at 1:59 pm #1103110Yeha i have been searching high and low on the bloody internet to locate somewhere, all i get is you have to check with the local area, how bloody helpfull :bounce_fl
April 17, 2007 at 2:25 pm #1103104unfortunately most seaside resort areas discourage camping because of homeless smackheads causing problems (there is a lot of heroin in most coastal areas as you would expect),
also many sites tend to charge for pitches and there has never really been much tolerance of wild camping in this country – although if you pick a secluded enough area you can often get away with it…
its a case of knowing the area well enough….

Yeah this is where the problem lays, i dont want to be too close to home. Also its a bloody pain in the backside that you cant find somewhere out the way and just set up camp, thats the whole idea of it. A campsite is a boring idea. Well i have about a month to find myself a suitable place to be camping (might have to rope the other happy campers into helping me)
April 17, 2007 at 3:02 pm #1103105a good place to start looking is the seaside areas that are no longer popular with your average “knotted hanky on head” [1] seaside holidaymaker, due to the road/rail networks being less developed than other resorts…
Don’t go to Frinton or Walton on the Naze as its full of moany old grannies and local Essex chavs, and some of the Suffolk coast is a bit radioactive because of Sizewell..
[1] actually they re-did the old public information film about calling the Coastguard with Joe and Petunia, Joe’s knotted hanky had been replaced by a Burberry baseball cap :laugh_at:(he also now dialled 999 on his mobile phone and the Coastguard despatcher had a computer and was brown-skinned..)
April 17, 2007 at 3:19 pm #1103112I was hoping for a secluded beach down near Bournemouth / Brighton way. I think finding a place like this is going to be like trying to find rocking horse shit :laugh_at:
I might have to go along the lines of an out the away area (field/woods) somewhere.
seems so hard to do anything like this in the UK, which i do think is a shame. I can see whay though as you probably do get the odd few who do this and wouldn’t clean up.
Also i do want to be away from Chavs or old grannys as that would just make life a nightmare…..
I am really trying my hardest to aviod a campsite, although i can imagine some of the smaller lesser know ones may be a little bit more layed back.
