From today we have a new link on every user’s MEMBER PROFILE PAGE. When clicked it registers the user who clicked it has a crush, admires or respects the user whose profile he or she was viewing…
A PM is then sent to the recipient from Cilla Black informing them that someone secretly admires them but doesn’t say who! The person is then encouraged to also go and register the users they have a crush on, admire or respect…
If two people like each other, then both parties are notified and love is spread! 🙂
There’s also a user control panel option for users to have a report e-mailed to them showing them how many people admire them, their matches, etc. For privacy and security this is NOT PM’d, and there are no administrative ways of displaying this data.

October 20, 2005 at 10:30 pm #1067413I saw this feature on psy-forum a few months back….
Thought it was rather daft TBH, and have always been wary of turning rave sites into dating sites – any feelings for people on the rave scene – particularly from random meetings at parties are often lust rather than love and can end up with things going pear-shaped….
if people are going to meet because of their common interests they are going to anyway and I doubt a messageboard is going to help – even one like PV where people are relatively well-behaved. Particuarly in a climate where you have to watch everything you write in case its used against you – if not by cops by others on the net with bad intent; its not the sort of climate where you’re going to talk frankly about your private life unless you can get to know people first, nor are you going to put your picture on the profile if you are involved in free parties, it would be like mailing your mugshot to the local bobbies!
That said this feature (which still seems like passing round notes like in school!) probably the least worst way of doing things like this and should hopefully not result in this system being abused for harrasment.

October 21, 2005 at 11:32 am #1067414I’ve actually been re-united with someone I hadn’t seen for ages because of this forum – but I barely have time to keep up with PMs because of work (and I reckon won’t be long before my work blocks PV anyway)
is there an opt-out function like the choice you have about showing your age or gender?
