Im not talking about something famous for its huge fanbase (like kanye west, 50 shades and TOWIE)
I’m talking about a movie, TV show, band/artist, book act, that has received critical praise; that you simply do not like.
For me its guns and roses.
Yes they where somewhat pioneers and yes they where terrific stage men. The songs are catchy and well written, superb at creating poppy ballads (in this context I mean ‘pop’ as in appealing to the masses) An element of genius there. As for personal preference…I find their music quite unpleasant.
The ballads are all too epic sounding and in your face, and I cannot stand axel roses vocals.
I like the subtleties in music, sometimes less is more.
Generally I’m no fan of ‘cock rock’,especially as it gets monotonous. So what about yourself? Any confesions to something you don’t like to admit you hate? (or you know you will get a reaction)
January 1, 2013 at 10:53 pm #1264791Coldplay and U2. Coldplay sound like Chris Martin listened to Radiohead’s “The Bends” album one too many times and decided all his songs must sound like stadium-rock versions of “Fake Plastic Trees” and “High and Dry.” It’s quite dull to me.
U2, I just think their songs all sound the same, and are way overproduced. They don’t really do anything for me whatsoever.
I do hear you on GnR though. I’ve always found them to be overrated. They had like 3 or 4 really good songs and the rest are just those songs done differently.

-Yep.
January 1, 2013 at 11:05 pm #1264818Coldplay…hmm.
Kudos to them writing parachutes and AROBTTH they are cracking albums. I would hate them less if they where not played on every pathetic and cringy sad scene in every reality show ever made.January 1, 2013 at 11:06 pm #1264783I can’t stand guns nd roses, I think there proper lame. as for u2….why can’t they just fuck off
January 2, 2013 at 12:12 pm #1264830Shrek – fucking hate it! Don’t know why, but I just always have done. I love the Ice Age films though!
Also, everything to do with Harry Potter can fuck off and die, as can the Lord of the Rings movies.
Remakes of movies piss me off too, they’re the film equivalent of cover versions, movies for the X-Factor generation!
January 2, 2013 at 12:18 pm #1264773Any music act what makes it into and is praised in the Grauniad, even though I am left wing in my political views and outlook. They should stick to reporting hard news from a centre-left perspective (which they are good at) not trying to be hipsters (where, depending on the reporters age, they end up coming across like an embarrasing combination of 1980s leftie teachers trying to be trendy, and a sixth form/student uni newspaper).
99% of the time their reporting on the dance scene is fucking cringeworthy, though there was a while back some Manchester dude about my age who did write a good article about how you can be nice to each other in clubs like the old days and its not wrong or creepy (which apparently young clubbers increasingly think is the case where he is).
When I used to get a dead tree version, the arts/music section was only fit for cat’s litter tray (at least this was an environmentally friendly re-use of the paper).
January 2, 2013 at 1:50 pm #1264807Hmmm all the examples so far seem to be highly popular regardless of critical acclaims
Coldplay – I like the music, just cant stand the lead singer, same with U2, some great songs but a dick of a singer, Guns&Roses just not my taste at all but from their sales many obviously do like them
Totally agree with GTek on covers and remakes, and hating those damn karaoke shows
On topic though, critically acclaimed yet not really popular that I hate……… anything by Shakespeare…… maybe it was good in it’s day but that was a hell of a long time ago, the language is antiquated, the characters thin, the storylines done a 1000 times, why do they still teach this crap, claim it to be such genius, and have pompous arseholes subsidised to perform it to 1/2 empty theaters only other pompous arses go to……………. I hate Shakespeare
January 2, 2013 at 2:29 pm #1264845I agree with everyone here other then G-Tek.. Shrek & LOTR are fucking awesome man! I actually don’t like Ice Age, but i’ve noticed that the two films actually divide people – most only like one or the other for some reason
January 2, 2013 at 2:51 pm #1264781Wow dislike for coldplay and shakespeare. i won’t bother replying now 😀
January 2, 2013 at 2:52 pm #1264782Though i will say, if you dis coldplay for their sound and like radiohead i find that funny as radiohead are much more miserable and whiney than coldplay EASILY. fanks
January 2, 2013 at 3:08 pm #1264778Stephen Speilberg and George Lucas are on my list. Leonardo Di Caprio, Jonny Depp, AVATAR, Batman: Dark knight rises FACEBOOK and partyvibe.
Oh and Boobs everyone is always going on about boobs, WTF have they ever done for the world. Now Moobs on the other hand can be quite handy if you ask me.

With you on shrek, G-Tek isn’t exactly criticality acclaimed, I mean he has only got a few tracks and he isn’t even famous, he was online in minute ago.
January 2, 2013 at 5:07 pm #1264784Lol

I don’t like Coldplay because they sound like “Fake Plastic Trees” and “High and Dry” over and over again. Those are the two worst Radiohead songs in my opinion.

Sorry i didnt mean ‘critically aclaimed but not popular ‘ because you would be left with next to nothing.i meant something you dont like thats crittically aclaimed and not just popular (otherwise people would come out with the obvious like beiber)
January 2, 2013 at 7:07 pm #1264793January 2, 2013 at 7:10 pm #1264820No miserable music is fine, when it comes from the heart. Coldplay how ever it seems a bit put on, savvy?
Thom yorks voice is sublime and over his career the sound of his voice has really matured. It was cathedrial city cheese and now its a fine oak smoked mature chedder.
Chris martins (is that his name?) vocals have always sounded the same and its well monotonous.
January 2, 2013 at 7:16 pm #1264821I liked the first shrek and the first ice age, they like to bleed them dry mind.
I caught one shrek on tc the other day. Shrek has ogar kids, the donkey fucks the dragon and has dragon donkey babies, you meet fionas parents who locked her in a tower which everyones cool about and I think prince charming is fucking his mother.
Whuuh?Great sound tracks though.
January 2, 2013 at 7:19 pm #1264846yeah the first ice age was alright i suppose, the 3984560935th wasn’t
January 2, 2013 at 7:22 pm #1264785I think any Simon pegg film is utter shite. He’s not been remotely amusing for years.
Also any film he stars in is automatically shite.

Wow, that was brave!
January 2, 2013 at 7:44 pm #1264855Call of Duty. Ugh. Also gotta agree with most of what has been said about Coldplay, can’t stand them. 🙁
