picking up my new (ish) car today. Its a steal, 3years old 13,000 miles, one careful owner and it doesn’t need anything doing to it but . . .

i’ve gotta scrap my old car first this morning and i’m sad!

i got it years ago, practically for free, its an old, knackered mazda 323, its looked after me an i’ve looked after it, learnt mechanics, can sort loads of stuff myself, can sleep in it needs be, but this year its started dying badly, too many things have gone wrong to make it worth throwing more money at it so . . . off to the metal scrap-yard in the sky

i know it makes sense but i still don want to do it! the new one is a little Ka, it will be dependable (which is what i need) but it has no character!

My car has soul, we’ve been together for years, an i’m gona miss it! Am i mad? Has anyone else ever been attached to their vehicle?:cry::cry:

I don’t own a car, but my first bicycle I rode any distance on was made out of recovered parts by two squatters in Reading in return for getting a big electric cooker working at their squat after a party, so people could have some decent food (albeit mostly raided from skips!) to get them through the comedown and start of a new week.

I remember being really pissed off when this was stolen from my garage. By todays standards it was the cheapest and clunkiest of bicycles I have ever owned, but it was more the history of it…

I think there are definitely memories associated with a piece of kit

I recently got a new mobile phone and changed network – Vodafone’s coverage is crap in my part of East Anglia. I was running the old phone in parallel for a bit and still have it as it has friends numbers on it, but the day the message changed to “Inactive SIM” it did feel like the “end of an era” (but the start of a new one).

I wouldn’t say a Ka has no charachter. They’re cheeky, fun unbeliavably good looking for a design over 10 years old, a HOOT to drive and are the closest thing to the original mini that you can buy.

I always think it’s really interesting the way people get attached to cars. I’ve been more than attached to a few of mine, and when they go you always think nothing can really replace them. Trust me though, a Ka is a really good choice, you’ll love it and I don’t think you’ll regret it at all.

My 1st car ‘Zelda’ was given to a mechanic for payment of work on our old mini cooper,

the mini had much more soul than Zelda, but unfortunatley also became a money pit with holes. leaks and all sorts wrong with it….

unfortunatley we were stupid and sold it (major regrets but needs must and all that – need to have a car that I can safely drive on the M25 everyday)

I do so miss getting bibbed and waves from othe mini drivers :hopeless: though

my new (2nd hand corsa) broke down on the way to manchester and needed a new engine with in 2 months of purchase and also has drained my savings …..

I’m slowly coming to the conclusion I am shit with cars :you_crazy :laugh_at:

well the mazda’s gone :cry::cry: but lots of very happy memories.

think part of the problem was that i had to scrap her, doesn’t seem right, wasteful, you know? but i couldn’t even give her away (MOT due in next coupla weeks and needed so much major work doing to get through it no-one wanted to touch her, not even major “recycle it!” mates in B’tol!)

an i meant no disrespect to Kas or their owners 😉 (i am one now) but a 3 year old Ka just hasn’t got the history, feel or look of a nearly 20 year old maz that’s really had fun :bounce_fl

I had a brief lovely fantasy about a not so old transit to fit out as a camper but with my job i need summat that will get me there everyday with no hiccups so needs must.

Nice to know i’m not the only soft sod tho 😉

every loved car has a soul! i had my last car for 6 yrs and drove it to its death refusing point blank to get rid of it! but then the engine fell out on the way back from a party along the m4 and would of been too pricey to fix!

took me a long time to get over him (RIP Lil’Juddy) and i still have the number plate from him, i nearly cried when they loaded him onto the back of the tow truck to neva be seen again! and to add insult to injury the guy offered me £20 for him, needless to say i didnt take the money!

its taken me quite a while to bond with my new car but i think we are finally startin to click
