Right, I’ve been mixing on traktor 3 for i cant remember how long, not as long as poly (who i got it off), but i now have the funds to support buying vinyl and stuff. I need decks that are capable of being abused, as i have never used vinyl decks…..Ideally I’m looking for decks capable of my varied music tastes, but mainly for jungle and acid techno. Any words of wisdom and the such would be helpful……
:wave:August 31, 2010 at 2:19 am #1228719whats your budget?
August 31, 2010 at 7:42 am #1228706Technics 1210’s are the king of decks.
August 31, 2010 at 8:57 am #1228720to hell with buying vinyl these days, if you wanna use turntables then get a dvs setup and you’ll have the best of both worlds. its all very well wanting to mix properly but going from traktor to a typical vinyl setup would be a bad decision imo
August 31, 2010 at 9:12 am #1228708get some vestax or tecnics … tecnics are rugged as fuck and will take all kindsa abuse but are pretty basic. vestax have a few cool electronic features on them depending on what ones you get and have major torque (meaning you can scratch like a loonatic and they’ll keep pace).
personaly I wouldn’t waste cash on getting sub standard decks to learn on then having to upgrade as when you’re skills demand more then your budget decks can offer you’ll have to fork out more cash for new decks again.
technics are pretty much the indastry standad and keep there value as they are indistructable but I personaly opt for vestax as they generaly have slightly more torque. (last time i checked anyway).
August 31, 2010 at 9:08 pm #1228725budget is about £400-£450, this includes the mixerer. Been looking at PDX2000’s, mate of mine has some, not sure whether there in good nick or not, as the previous owner was a psychotic mash up, but he is willing to sell them. As for the mixer, i looked at a Behringer VXM300, looks ok (i think) but i feel i need a bit of guidance with the mixerer….

The rule is: vinyl decks = Technics. Always has been, always will be.

you see, SL1200/1210’s are tempting, but im not sure if i wanna fork out that kinda money….PDX2000’s are looking like the most probable purchase. Need a good mixer, though i dont know what im looking at, as there are sooo many to choose from….

Technics get boring i find tho .. vestax are just as good with extra bits just not as rugged .. it really is a toss up between the two … no other makes even come close imo.
August 31, 2010 at 11:04 pm #1228727rugged is what i need, decks that can take abuse and dish out audio abuse!
August 31, 2010 at 11:26 pm #1228710most vestax are better for scratching as they have higher torque .. but if what you mean by rugged is that you can head butt them whilst mixing as you drop in a phat beat then yeah technics are not gonna break lol.
August 31, 2010 at 11:35 pm #1228729ill look on ebay for 1200’s and/or 1210’s im hopin they aren’t silly money
September 1, 2010 at 1:30 am #1228721not silly money at all
September 3, 2010 at 4:55 pm #1228730decided on PDX2000’s. i want them
September 5, 2010 at 5:18 pm #1228707If you have your heart set on buying decks then fair enough. Personally though, I’d spend the money on improving my Traktor rig, or have a Beatport binge. Currently I’m at the point where I have decks and I’m struggling to buy the tunes I want cos pressing vinyl is too expensive for labels to bother with. I managed to blag a copy of Traktor but don’t have a controller or I/O for it yet. I’d sell the decks but I’m just too attached to them and like my record collection too much!
September 5, 2010 at 6:46 pm #1228731i want the decks to link up to my laptop (if poss), then slowly wean myself off the laptop and into analogue mixing
September 5, 2010 at 8:25 pm #1228716CDJ’s!!!!
September 5, 2010 at 8:26 pm #1228717Get a 505 first :p way better!!
September 6, 2010 at 7:48 am #1228722gaz a dvs setup will be quite expensive, ur talking like 170 for the soundcard alone if you wanna run traktor scratch.
tbh though, trying to wean yourself off a dvs setup right on to analogue is a big mistake, its not something you want to do considering the ammount of music you’ll miss out on. instead of spending money on vinyl you could just use it to improve your rig.September 6, 2010 at 11:25 am #1228711@Gazatronium-Ethane 396917 wrote:

I used to have PDX2000’s .. and they are good decks … but unless you keep them in good shape they have a few things that seem to go wrong on alot of them (They will start to go backwards randomly!) – if they are healthy, well maintained and yearly serviced (If you get this done by vestax them selves @ £50 a year this will add 1 year to the garentee so basicaly you pay £50 a year for a lifetime garentee+yearly service) you should have no problems what so ever with them ever. TBH even without the yearly service as long as they are kept in good nick you should be fine with them.

Depends what type of music you’re into mate! For example I’ve never heard of a D+B tune being on Digital format only.
It’s mainly just modener styles of dance that don’t really rely on gut-wrenchingly gritty bass that are digital only (and if they do they are missing out on some extra dirt from only going digital – ESPECIALY if they are using mp3’s!)September 6, 2010 at 12:36 pm #1228723@DaftFader 397394 wrote:

September 7, 2010 at 9:35 pm #1228732well like i stated, acid techno, jungle (jungle just for listing to, not mixing) & tech house/minimal if i can find it…..
£50 a year, that is VERY reasonable, very reasonable indeed. BACKWARDS?!?! i have only ever know technology that reetardered was a parking meter that didn’t accept any form of cash……weiirrrdSeptember 8, 2010 at 12:49 am #1228705Anonymousi use a djm700 for mixing, it is excellent although i wish i’d saved up for the 800! on either side of it i have citronic mpcds6’s, these have been great, no problems at all. the time has come to upgrade to a cdj 400 or 800 though ..!!!! ..
you cannot go wrong with pioneer
